I second this. The CPS wiring is right in between the valve cover and the power steering fluid reservoir. You should see a green (or grey) electrical connector. Just give it a wiggle, and then try starting it.
Wow! This thread is getting so much attention...my emissions thread went all but unnoticed. Oh well, at least I was able to find a lot of useful info in this one. :D
So there is a long passage through the intake manifold for the EGR? How can I test that mine isn't plugged?
What exactly are those whitish flakes that the filter caught? I'm assuming some sort or deposit? :dunno:
Have you ever heard of the "Citrus Flush" that Mercedes uses? That is what the people over on the Mercedes forums seem to recommend...they also mention the use of food grade Citric acid...

That looks like a good price for that car. The body looks great, and I haven't seen an original burgundy interior in that shape in a pre-89 for a LONG time. In fact, the only other time was in a 50k mile car on eBay.
What tells the ECU to keep the fuel pump running after the engine has started? Does the fuel pump run for a few seconds after cranking, without the engine firing? Just curious...
The car should still start just fine with the AFM unplugged...so doesn't that mean that the problem is elsewhere?
This should help you:

Well, my suspicion has been confirmed. The wiring to the o2 sensor is bad. I bypassed the harness, and wired it straight to the ECU, and now it is cross-counting between Vf and E1 as it should. So I took it back in for a smog retest.
It still didn't pass, but the numbers are WAY different...
