Code 34 - Fixed IC Piping, How to Clean AFM?

We got the car running and it would not boost at all. Code 34. Found a loose intercooler clamp and tightened it. The car seemed to run better but was still running to rich 10.0 at WOT. Pressure checked the system. Found some more leaks. The clamps we got with our intercooler kit where to...

Wideband says running too rich when buildling boost

We found the leak and will be driving it more tomorrow. we went into it intending to build in some subframe connectors, but the lack of space under a supra quickly turned that wish into a more serious venture if we had decided to cut open the boxed unibody and weld in metal there. So we...

Wideband says running too rich when buildling boost

So my 7M Supra build of the past two years is just about come to completion, and only a few small bugs remain to be worked out before it's ready to be broken in, and had some miles put on her. My current problem arises when building boost. The boost controller is turned way down, and I’m...

Installing Cams: Clearance and Fitment Questions

So here is where we are at, and thank you for all the help everyone... My mechanic honestly does not know where the shims went, and doesn't even remember seeing them. I personally saw a bunch of the buckets/lifters and did not see any other pieces of metal going along with the head, so now...

Installing Cams: Clearance and Fitment Questions

Is there a standard thickness of the shims. Trying to figure out how these would be ordered. I could get pictures taken but it sounds like this is a clear issue. I am not sure of the variables involved and can get some pics taken if it would really help. "You can get replacement valve...

Installing Cams: Clearance and Fitment Questions

I mentioned to my mechanic (car is several states away) that I had read about spacers, but he did not see any when disassembling the head the last time. We do not believe that the cams were ever reground, but that cannot be proven. What is the purpose of the spacers, would this prevent the...

Installing Cams: Clearance and Fitment Questions

My engine is going together, and the head has been mounted and torqued. The Valves and guides have not bee changed on this head, it was checked by a machine shop and certified as straight and good. I bought a set of used cams from a 7MGTE that were in better shape than the ones I had...

Extra Hex Plug - Unsure of Location

We are building a 7MGTE and have an extra hex plug. We had a total of two, but are unsure if the second came as part of the other parts bought, or if it is missing from a location in the block. It is a HEX style plug, the only location we could find was in the back of the motor, where one of...

    7M Head Condition Confusion

The second photo in from the left (of the cam) is the spot which worries us. The gouge is into the metal. I know the head itself is in great shape. It checked out OK, and it was never overheated. But the cams are the problem area. It's going on a short block which I've put a lot of money...

    7M Head Condition Confusion

Response from my shop - Keep in mind I am many states away and cannot asses them myself. "We looked at the head when we where taking the pictures. Our opinion is that the head is fine. The cams are the things I am worried about because of all the groves in them."

    7M Head Condition Confusion

"The "gouging" or "scoring" is caused by aluminum buildup from the head" The cams ride right on the aluminum, I haven't heard of bearings in the head, though it seems like it would be a good idea to have inserts like on the crankshaft.

    7M Head Condition Confusion

Fortunately the engine never overheated. We found the problem when we pulled the head to install studs and a new head gasket as preventative maintenance. I sent the head to a machine shop expecting them to rebuilt it and they crack/pressure tested it and cleaned it and sent it back to me...

    7M Head Condition Confusion

I just talked to the machinist again. While he isn't a specialist this is what he said. Unfortunately I can't get pictures yet, but maybe next week. He said that the journals look tore up and there are big gouges where the caps bolt down onto the cams. He says it looks like a loss of...
