Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

Ok, I tried it on my car.. Here we go, hold on.. 0psi at 1700rpm's in 4th. 1psi at 2100 rpm's. At least that's what my boost gauge read. That's on an SP59GT with a .68A/R using the HPF manifold

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

/\ Ok, I will try the same test on my SP59 today and see how it compares.

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

DrJones, did you drive with your GT35 enough to determine how it spooled compared to your SP57? I remember the spool on that SP57 with its .58A/R was outstanding. Were you using the .82 A/R on the GT35? Any other owners want to commment on spool-up? I remember my SP61GT hitting 15psi in 4th...

    9:1 compression + high boost

Another thing not mentioned since we are going over un-mentioned things: Most new turbocharged cars use a much higher compression in there engines. The reason: Again, drivability. And of course better technology like Direct injection for better cylinder cooling allows a lower detanation threshhold.

    9:1 compression + high boost

I have owned a 1st gen eclipse turbo which comes with a 7.8:1 compression and a 2nd gen eclipse turbo with a 8.5:1 compression. The off boost response is clearly better in the 2nd gen eclipse due to the higher compression. (Of course it has smaller intake ports for higher velocity air intake to...

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

Back on the topic.. I was doing sme more reading about the GT35 on Honda-Tech. Its just hear-say,but the big name tuners are saying that the GT35 turbine wheel flows just as well as the bigger P-trim turbine turbine wheel. P-trim turbine wheel size: inducer-2.54" exducer-2.92" GT35 turbine...

    Dyno sheet thread

Ubersupra, its looks you are making about 25 more rwhp than I did when I had my SP61GT running 18psi, with nearly an identical setup. Looks like I spooled about 200rpm's ealier- proabably due to the cooler condition when I dynoed. I would like to see what you car will do at higher boost. I...

    bc 264 or 272???

I remember that comparison. The 264's did not lose any low or midrange power compared to stock cams and had nice gai ns at high RPM. The 272's however lost some low and mid-range power. They did make more peak power than the 264's, but that wasn't until very high rpm. No ones really going to...

    Heading to the track tonight.

My turbo is the SP59GT with a .68 A/R turbine side and a .60TO4E compressor housing. The SP59 uses a slightly smaller turbine wheel than the regular SP61's, I'm still not sure what wheel it is.. If I had to do it again, I would have put a GT35DBB on there with a TO4S compressor housing. I'm...

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

I'm sure the BMW cylinder heads are much better then even a 2JZ head. But from my brief reading, those guys are doing the same tricks everyone else is doing to make good power on low boost (even with dropped compression ratio); Cams, headporting, intakes, standalone ECU... I kind of like the...

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=521046 Here's more info. Scroll down to the turbo kits with GT35's.. One guy is making 635rwhp on a 2.8liter. I'm really starting to beleive after these guys putting down high 500's on pump.

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

Here is a good article showing a comparison between the T61 and GT35. Its a 3.2 liter inline 6 so it's going to spool a bit better on BMW.:http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=286739

Is the GT3540R turbo worth the money?

WE need more dynos of the GT35. IJ, didn't you max out the GT35 at 535rwhp at 30psi? I thought a 61mm turbo should max out around 600rwhp at high boost.. I guess.. unless the turbine wheel is really limiting flow. I still don't understand how some of those EVO's are pushing 650rwhp...

    Will it make 700?

    I say right around 650rwhp.

    T4 Turbo Manifold

I have an HKS cast long runner manifold that I am selling along with the wastegate and downpipe . This is a much stronger manifold than most tubular manifolds and it should flow just as well.

ANOTHER NEW Dyno number > 842.98 today!!! PG 16 for sheet :)

Knate, it would be nice if you could tell us what changes you made to go from 640rwhp to 735rwhp. I remember you had a fully built engine with fully ported heads with stock cams while using the AEM EMS for tuning the last time you dynoed,. From what I see now, you are running about 4 more PSI of...

    Let's talk High Flow Cat

I was running an RT high flow CAT for a while. I switched to an equal size test pipe and my boost jumped from 18 to 20psi with no other changes. That alone tells me that the RT CAT was restricting flow. I will never go back to catolitic converter unless its Emissions time..

ANOTHER NEW Dyno number > 842.98 today!!! PG 16 for sheet :)

Wow, 735rwhp all boost on a 67mm turbo is impressive. Nice job. How much boost are you running? And can we get an updated list on your major mods?
