They are perfectly secure without it. The only thing you are losing is those plastic guides that organized the wires. I drove all summer like this no problems.
After looking at how the engine works. A misfire or a dead cylinder would be death would it not? I don't see how it could keep moving with even 1 dead cylinder.
Mine fits fine. However the worm clamps wont fully seal it and the couplers are not truely the right size. And those threaded plugs don't seal shit they leak.
Run a longer rubber hose bypassing that thing and thats the mod lol. Some opt to drill it out or use a block off plate that does not have the tube for show. but its not nesssary.

fluby same as me you found out the hard way. i took the damn starter out 4 times total too. I ran a switch to the cabin. and the switch melted internally or something and fused. So while my dad was driving the car and the starter cranked until it burnt out. It's insides...
