Sounds lovely. Here's hoping it will last 'til spring, or until I can find a not-frozen place to do the work. Damn apartments without available garages.
It just so happens I have my VIN handy just about all the time (car folder FTW) and the number is a 5. So according to that, I have an LSD! Woo! Now to worry about the maintenance that probably hasn't been done on it and scour the forums. If there's some oil on the fins across the bottom of the...
Um.. lol? My car, as it is right now, doesn't have enough power to do a burnout. Between my valve guides and cyls 5/6 not firing worth a damn (still haven't been able to diagnose it yet), I have all the power of a 1G-GE and the mileage of a muscle car. It drives fine, but no burnouts here.
If...
This is an insanely noob question for me to ask, but I forgot and can't seem to find the info I read once upon a time.
How the hell do you visually tell the difference between a limited-slip and an open diff? I remember reading something about the LSD having heat fins all over it while the...
Part of the reason it probably works so well for the 240/260Z is because they don't really have a lot of interior anyway, so making the rest of the car match properly isn't too difficult. If you've ever been in one, you'll know what I mean. Even the door panels are crazy flat compared to the...
Very interesting, my '91 is loud as hell and looking at exhaust work, but I think I mostly corroded/destroyed the baffles in the muffler.. ($30 muffler) ..at least, that's what the pinhole under the tailpipe surrounded by lots of black carbon says to me.
Either way, it's nice to finally see...
Hm. If there were only that many produced, it certainly gives me a whole new viewpoint for my '91. I wonder... ..since it's a White Package (white car/molding/wheels/bronze-tinted windows for those who don't know), does that make it any more unique? I don't know how many White Packages were sold...
Even though it's not the MkIII and probably going to be considered irrelevant, there's a very nice mint-condition MkII near where I live that I have almost unlimited opportunity to look at and I can say for sure that on the MkIIs, you can't really see the muffler at all.
I'd be willing to bet he means the model of the radio. The model of the car is more or less a given, and irrelevant anyway since Toyota used radios in lots of cars.
Sounds similar to my situation, but I don't know what's really going on in my engine. I'll submit it for evaluation here, since this seems an appropriate thread.
It usually starts up fine, though cold weather makes it noticeably harder. I don't get any white smoke, but I do get a noticeable bit...
Even if you switched pans and screwed in the sender, what about the other end of things? The signal has to go somewhere, so where's it go and how do you hook it up?
What I meant by "not nearly as bad" is that I can't possibly foresee shims being $11 each and needing 24 of them. 24 lifters @ $11+ each plus tax or shipping add up very fast.
So since I've got this whole thread to embarrass myself in... approximately how much should I be expecting to pay for...
Euro all the way. Keep the Toyota badge, lose the Turbo badge. That thing goes on the back. If you want a badge for the front that says it's a turbo, they exist. Get one.
That's good news. The lifters on the old head appear to be a total loss, and a full set of new ones is crazy expensive. Shims shouldn't be nearly as bad. Thanks a ton.
According to the TSRM, those bucket-shaped things in the valvetrain are in fact called lifters. So none of that in this thread, please.
Now, on to business. I'm FINALLY looking at getting my engine woes diagnosed properly/repaired, and part of that requires removing the head. To this end...
I don't know if your current car's a turbo or not, but before you go planning to do anything with a turbo engine, you may want to fix that problem you have of not knowing much about turbos. Just a thought.
