As far as I know 91 octane is the highest available by any of the "brand name" gasoline here in Southern Calif.
What brand of 93 octane are you guys buying...and does anyone know why we don't have it in SoCal?
You could also get a multimeter (if you don't already have one) and check voltage to the plug that goes into the switch and then check voltage at the motor etc.
That would be the correct way, and it will isolate where the current isn't getting through...voila, problem solved.
First off the click your hearing is the circuit open relay in the right kick panel, not the ECM.
I would not be surprised if the problem you are experiencing is being caused by the starter signal wire. This wire has a tendency to become corroded (probably starting at the connection to the...
It sounds like your a little worried about getting a tight seal at the deck of the block. That's a well founded fear because with a metal head-gasket sealing is dependent on the ra (roughness average) on the gasket mating surfaces, i.e. block deck and the bottom of the cylinder head. Any...
If the phrasing of your question is accurate (albeit vague) I am getting that you have an n/a block w/ 7mgte turbo, manifolds, ecu, inter-cooler etc.
If that's the case there a few other considerations, such as the 7mge's higher compression, non-forged pistons and lack of oil-squirters to...
They're progressively wound instead of straight wound which makes them change characteristics when pushed hard, somewhere between mushy and somewhat firm. I've had them and felt it made the car feel somewhat unpredictable and real "twitchy" entering and exiting the corner.
Also, they don't...
Yes...I've cracked one (I've "grenaded" a lot of parts) and the sound is similar, only louder, and lower down, but it does make a similar hollow tick. I would be willing to bet it has often been mistaken for rod knock.
Even though this is a fresh motor I decided to check to see if there was any movement of the cams in the caps and saddles. On the intake nothing, and on the exhaust side...I wasn't sure, I thought maybe I could feel some movement but not sure. So I decided to pull the cams and check. As I'm...
I can clearly see the cracks you're talking about and I've seen them before.
Hate to say it but I think your going to be best off with another block. As the block gets hotter the crack gets bigger and the pressurized coolant forces it's way through the crack.
I theorize that these types of...
Yeah it's an auto trans...why do you ask?
I should also say it only makes the noise at idle and it's very quiet but it's there.
I've got the valve covers off it right now...I measured all the valve clearances and they're all within spec. I also checked the lifters and none are stuck. The...
I hadn't considered that, thanks.
Did you have any other symptoms other than the sound it was making?? Idle? Misfire? Or was the "clacking" the only clue something was wrong?
Did your motor make a hollow click sound (sorta like two pieces of hardwood striking each other?
Actually, if you don't have spring compressors and you loosen the top bolt those springs can come off with incredible force. You could get killed/seriously maimed by just loosening them because they will come flying off and the spring perch will become a projectile.
Get some spring...
I have all the mods (and then some) mentioned in the thread you're referring to, with the exception of locking down the cable (as mentioned previously, don't do it). I have tried many different size shims and valve body adjustments and haven't run into the problems you are experiencing...
Unplugging the ISC valve will result in similar idle problems (up and down between 1k or so and 2k or so), so I would check all your connections to your ISC (the wires have a tendency to break off at the back of the plug). Also, check that the ISC unit is making a clicking noise right after you...
