Two fans. Especially in cars with A/C.
Also I've come to find that you can scavenge better quality OEM fans at the junkyard than you can buy from aftermarket suppliers. I've gone both routes and I've had better luck with the scavenged fans.

I have a hardtop, but it's an N/A w/ full turbo conversion and as previously stated, I think there were a lot more turbo/sportroofs made than turbo/hardtops.

I tried it like 10 times and it does just what you described.
Going along 'bout 70mph, move the gear selector to neutral and you can feel it "engage" and then go to neutral.
I just rebuilt this transmission top to bottom less than 4K miles ago and it's perfect, so I guess that's the deal.
