I tried it like 10 times and it does just what you described. Going along 'bout 70mph, move the gear selector to neutral and you can feel it "engage" and then go to neutral. I just rebuilt this transmission top to bottom less than 4K miles ago and it's perfect, so I guess that's the deal.
