Well, batteries are full of acid and plates. This acid slowly seaps out of the case over time and oxidizes the poles on the battery leading to corosion.

rpm signal is a bad signal comming from IGf. Check the diagnostic port with a meter that can measure freq, and measure the freq of IG- to ground, it should give a clean freq proportional to rpm. If it doesn't, then there is a wiring problem, or ignitor problem. Water temp should ba an easy fix...
