If they are going to microsoft it could be trying to find any updates you need or don't have installed. But it could also be something else beyond spyware. What kind of protection do you have on your comp.

Well Blue smoke is caused by engine oil entering the cylinder, White smoke is caused by water and or antifreeze entering the cylinder, and Black/Gray is excess fuel that has entered the cylinder.
