In the second pic on the short splines rebuilder says some splines are not exactly straight, I cant really see it myself I admit.
However when I zoom the internal splines I do see some scuff wear on the leading edges, I marked a few but I think all of the splines have the marks.
The rebuilder...
Pics of the diff internals, Ring and Pinion are fine, seems the side flange splines are little crooked. I will be filling the diff with AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-110
Over the weekend, I managed to get a large gear puller, it is a 3 jaw type. I removed the caliper and then rotor, then I positioned the jaws around the inner flange that holds the wheel studs, after some huffing and puffing I managed to push the right side CV axle out. I proceed to clean the...
Ok confirmed it is 32mm. I managed to loosen and remove the nut, ironically with the handbrake pulled all the way up. I asked my wife to press the brakes hard, the rotor still moved, perhaps her legs aren't strong enough. I sprayed WD40 into the splines and proceed to knock on the CV joint end...
A thought just crossed my mind about the suspension arm, perhaps toyota also didnt want to subject the absorber to a great pull down force when loosening the nut ? Btw is the nut size 32mm ?
Also, having the wheel nuts on tight on the rotor with hbrake on should do , instead of having some one...
While looking at the TSRM, I noticed it says we need to level the suspension arm before removing and installing the CV joint.
What is the reason for this ? Also I made the mistake of not making a mark on the CV joint to the differential side gear flange when I removed the diff. Is this really a...
I just opened up my diff yesterday and sending the diff and prop shaft for rebuild, may also send the CV joints but they seem fine. Btw, the clunk isnt a one clunk, but a clunk clunk. Its like as soon as i engage D, one clunk then less than a second later another clunk as it "settles"
So recently I swapped my front subframe bushings and had to remove the steering rack. When i put it back on the steering wheel was towards the right when the car is going straight. So i removed the steering wheel and turned it one notch on the spline, and its just a tiny bit to the right. I got...
I bought a set , they dont come with grease, so I used Superlube /syncolon synthetic grease on the insides, no grease on the upper and lower surface because I want the poly to grip the unibody tight. Can't answer you about the black density.
Regarding these steps, do these need to be torqued with the car at rest with the wheels on, because the TSRM does not show it.
If we can torque with the wheels off, how exactly do the bushing eyelets work? They don't actually grab on to the knuckles?
Ok i removed the washers, it seems the 2 washers at the rear are deformed ! Now they are nice snug and tight, no way the subframe will move.
However the clunking is still there. It happens whenever the car isnt moving and i put it from N to D. It also happens when I let off the gas abruptly...
So today I managed to install the bushings. I figured I should add a stainless steel washer to spread the load from the center collars.
So I torqued all the bushings up and went for a test drive. I felt something was off. It felt like the subframe was shifting everytime i shifted from N to D...
Its finally in since last week, but the only thing i disagree about his front bushings is reusing the old top hats. There should be new poly tops made, like other makes such as strongflex. The upper bushes should be a little thicker and there should be a metal washer to spread the load. I find...
Looks like i was wrong, i used my pushing jig to get the bushings out and I placed a wood ruler above the rear bushing hole top surface on the subframe, and insert the caliper tail from the bottom, indeed the rear is also 65mm, NOT 58mm as I said earlier, I had difficulty measuring that area...
I am in the midst of installing the rear RonnieK subframe bushings and found something odd.
The thickness of the rear 2 bushing mounts vs the 4 front bushing mounts are very different.
The front 4
and the rear 2
If the subframe thickness is not the same , why are all the 6 bushings the same...
Hi guys, I wanna make some urethane pads/bushings for the front subrame, and I need the upper lip part dimensions as shown in the diagram below, if some one has a subframe out please measure them in mm and share it.
The drawings I made I will share here.
Thanks
