check to see if your driveshaft is out of phase as well, its actually 3 pieces, and if the rear section gets out of phase it will cause a vibration. If it is the carrier bearing, i've seen a is300 bearing modded with the stock one to work and it will save you over 50% from buying from the dealer.

question, did you ever pull the engine and confirm this was rodknock? i just picked up a 89 turbo a/t and its got a high idle just like yours with some type of knocking noise, but i really dont think its rodknock.

weird, i did a HG job for a local from RI, and his engine had a shim in it as well, and it looked like the timing cover wasnt even with the block. ARP head studs for sure with the MHG.
