Identical to the 5M head. The intake manifold was different -- it had no provisions for EGR. And the ECU was slightly different. At any rate, it made ~190hp in full jdm trim (less than the 7mge w/ CA emissions stuff).
But displacement is only the volume occupied by the moving piston. A larger combustion chamber just lowers the compression ratio -- it doesn't increase displacement.
I believe its around 40cc
Well, your mod list doesn't look too bad. You might be able to sneak by with your intake (depends on your tech, I'd give it a 75% chance of passing visual). You will need to find a stock primary cat, and if you are still running your stock DP you should be good.
If your boost controller has...
You're going to have to register it in Cali.
Honestly your best bet is to befriend some local with a stock MK3. Have them smog their car (but put your VIN on the paperwork).
Otherwise be preparred for an exceptionally anal smog check for an out-of-state vehicle (I just did it on my...
7m head on 5m block? That's basically the same as a 5M crank in a 7m... You just loose the oil squirters (if 7mgte) and you only have 1 knock sensor port tapped. Either way, you still need custom pistons and/or rods (5m pistons have 2 valve reliefs). Oh, and 5m/7m oil pumps are basically...
Yes, they also have 5.7 liters or more... Draw a large circle on a peice of paper. Then draw two circles that are just big enough to fit inside that circle. Measure the area of those two circles. Then copy the large circle and draw 4 circles that fill it. Measure their combined area...
I'd like to see a 5m crank with 7m pistons & head... The 5M head doesn't flow that well at higher rpm and you're giving up low-end power by taking away some displacement...
Here's the story on this guy. I saw an add on Craigslist 2 months back for a Black Supra with a BHG. The previous owner had taken apart the intake piping, but pretty much stopped there. I picked it up figuring I could fix it over a weekend after finals were over and turn around and sell it...
Whenever you get a chance to take apart your first engine, you'll notice the cylinders are generally pretty shiny where the piston rings travel. Since the piston rings are constantly scraping up and down the cylinders, it doesn't really give carbon a chance to build up. Instead, the place you...
You're right that many times people don't try to solve things for themselves. However you bring up an interesting point. How much nicer would it be when searching to come up with a couple well-answered threads (rather than 20 threads with the question asked, but then chatter as reply)...
Because people are getting sick of checking back on their threads and having the same 4 or 5 guys run off with it -- constantly posting things they could (should) say over IM...
A number of the more knowledgeable "old timers" are leaving. Their information and wisdom gone... And for what...
