Just speaking from experience. When my HG was blown, coolant came out of rad in less than 30seconds it was damm near instant which indicated that the cylinder pressure was going pass the gasket and straight through the cooling system. No need for compression test this symptom made it obvious...
With your motor cold remove the rad cap and turn the motor on. If coolant starts getting pushed out of the top of the rad like it was said in previous post welcome to BHG=BAD HEAD GASKET:nono: But B 4 u do that replace rad cap and do every other trick that was mentioned in the posts preceeding...
Can't say that I blame u. One day I'll post a pic of mine. My MK is bright "hey officer point that radar here!" :biglaugh: red. It's clean...just a little loud. I thought that was your ride in rotm pic, nice.
Yes yes yall and u don't stop! I did what I wanted to do with was:
Readjust the cam timing. When I pulled the cover I was off the mark by one tooth. So I advanced the pulleys one tooth because I didn't realize that once u release the tensioner it pulls the cams back one tooth.
I then set the...
Sourced a timing light, come to find out the ignition timing wasn't WAY OFF it was actually OFF THE CHARTS IN ANOTHER DAMM GALAXY. I followed the ingnition timing reset as per the TSRM but now the timing mark will only go to about 5 degrees BTDC. Going to do a search on timing issues to make...
Thanx Bro. I'm still trying to source a timing light now and check my ignition timing. When I did the HG I had the CS pulley mark at 0 and both cams exactly on their marks. Car runs fine at idle at about 650rpm and starts O.K. no misfires or hard starting for the most part. I can even rev the...
Here I go. My MKIII has a new HG torqued down to 75ft.lbs. I did the work myself using a stock gasket as recommended by my man Shaeff.
Who btw gave me some great info. Base timing set properly car ran like a jem for about a week with a little extra fuel consumption.
Checked 4 vaccum leaks...

Find someone with an impact gun. Even if u have to go to a shop and impact that beeyaatch. That should solve your problem, worked for me. Impact will turn that nut b 4 the shock knows what happened.
Working from the exhaust mani side remove the bolts and nuts holding the bracket down. Remember to have some kind of container just for the accelerator /link assembly. Trust on this. On top of the head there is a long 10mm bolt holding down the assembly, remove it. If you have an auto like me...
My last post concerning Autos vs. Manuals. Remember numbers don't lie.
Manuals have 5 forward gears for better fuel economy right now thats whuts up!
There are way more auto to manual conversions than vice versa. As a matter of fact I'll bet dollars to dougnuts there is far more tech info on...
When I wrote about driving and skill I should have been a little more specific and said skills. Driving requires skillz one of which is shifting gears. So if we both had identical cars and competed in a race which you won then your skillz would have been better utilized than mine or possibly...
Thank you Doward you are a gentleman and a scholar. If you read my last post you will see that I think we are pretty much on the same page on a couple of issues. I really don't feel that any of this debate if you will is really that deep. There are so many real issues that exist in this world. I...
Thanx jdub maybe you didn't read the the sentence that said I am not debating the itelligence of automatic drivers vs. manual drivers like I said earlier idiots are idiots and as far as validity goes I will state again sport cars are just that sports cars. Trace the lineage of SPORTS CARS and...
