    alternator rattle noise

I've gotten rebuilt alternators with the big nut that holds the pulley on loose. Might check it.

    fuel filter/ spark problems

Idle Air Control, maybe. Dirty throttle body, maybe. fuel filter plugged, it would idle ok(maybe), and run like crap. Car requires more gas to move than idle, right? A plugged up filter would let less gas through, so...

    need some help! anyone??

http://cygnusx1.net/Supra/TechTips/engine_error_codes.aspx The pic at the top shows how to jumper to check codes. Most people use a paper clip. I made an insulated wire jumper with fine strand wire and small male leads, more like the original SST. EGR delete isn't gonna keep the car from...

Machine the rear timing plate with the block, not the head.

    need some help! anyone??

Vacuum line from the idle up valve on the power steering hooked up to the intake correctly? Doesn't really sound like a vacuum leak, but maybe a fuel or spark issue. New wires and plugs? How's the fuel pressure? I'd also check the plugs at the tps and afm. Make sure the connections are...

    BHG job question

So it did have a blown head gasket, due to overheating(Not the mech.'s fault the radiator cracked). The radiator was the issue. We don't do a timing belt without replacing the water pump, t.stat, and any seals that need replaced while we're there. All the specs you need for cleaning...

    fog lights in seprate circut

Or make sure you wire into one of the fused circuits that only work with the ignition on(like the radio or turn signals) ;)

    Burnt Oil Smell??

Did you use rtv under the head gasket where the block and lower timing cover meets? There's two little spots detailed here. First pic. "Apply seal packing to the two locations shown."(click the yellow letters) Also, check the oil pan bolts and see if any of them are loose. They only need to...

    BHG job question

Mechanic was probably unfamiliar with the motor, and probably sold the H.G. job to make sure the valves weren't bent. While your mechanic was doing all that, did he install a new water pump, t.stat, and test the radiator? Being machined multiple times would raise compression, not lower it...

    shipping dash

Hit your local appliance store, and see if you can get a small refrigerator box. Cut it down to fit your needs, and pack it full of newspaper, foam peanuts, etc. Office Depot sells the foam peanuts. Getting it professionally packaged would probably be the way to go, though.

Steering pulls to the right (Resolved 11/08)

You could have a bad wheel bearing. With the tire on, and that side jacked up, grab the top and bottom of the tire, and see if it will wiggle in and out. There shouldn't be any play at all. Also, give it a good spin, and listen closely for a slight roaring sound. It will be really quite(if...

    Timing belt slipping

For the OP: If the belt is coming off that fast, he's having a pulley issue. I would suspect the cam pullies first, as he could have set them wrong, and not have the alignment pin in the pulley hole, cocking the pulley and tossing the belt. As for the crank pulley, I've had the same problem...

Buying a budget tire, anyone tried these? (I picked/purchased already, thanks guys)

I'm running the Riken's. Nice tire, handle well, thick side walls, high(50psi) pressure rating, good tread design. Handle well in wet conditions, and hard to break loose. Probably my favorite tire so far, and I've run Kumho's(meh) and Federal's(meh). I got 245 40 zr17's for $450 mounted and...

Anyone want a real cold air intake?

Ceramic coat the piping from the throttle body to the afm.

Low coolant, but it refills itself.

Do you show any other symptoms? Water in the oil, loss of power, coolant on spark plugs, a steady miss, exhaust gases in the coolant? I'd lean more toward a slow leak somewhere, like a hose clamp that's a tiny bit loose, and dripping. Borrow a pressure tester from A.Z., and see what you find...

    toyota vs ford

Most of the Toyota's I work on are maintenance issues(brakes, timing belts, etc.) At this time, I have SIX Fords at the shop. Three are getting new motors, for various reasons, two for transmission issues, and one with a smoked computer(no start issue).

    Weird timing issue.........Please help

Your cam gear is on the cam correctly(don't forget the bolt, and torque it to spec. Be sure you check it again before you put the cover on). I agree with Facime's answer for the timing. Not the first time I've seen a plug like that, either. Make sure the rubber in your socket is holding...

    Unshrouding the valves?

Adjuster, I've seen you mention "unshrouding valves," and would like to know exactly, or close, what you did to achieve this. I have an idea, but would like to be positive before I start cutting on a head. Would this be close? Someone posted a link to this Cressida a while back, and I...
