New 87 mk3 owner with some questions.

Most of the time, heater cores leak due to deterioration over the years. Could be electrolysis, or simply rusted and corrosion due to too much water, not enough coolant. A lot of vehicles have a ground strap on the heater core(not sure about the Supra), so if there is one there, be sure to put...

    overheating at idle

Search here for Jetjock's thread on how to rebuild the fan clutch. Parts are easy to get(just need some R/C shock oil, iirc, just don't remember the weight), and pretty easy to do.

    code/decode 7m origin?

The main differences between the Cressida and Supra 7m's were the oil pans and intakes. As far as the long block(including timing belt and water pump) the engines are the same. If you still work at a parts counter, look up the part numbers between a 92 Supra, and 89 Cressida for the water pump...

    I think I need a new radiator.

The few times I've seen that have been from combustion gases in the cooling system increasing pressure beyond the limits of the plastic. I have seen plenty of cracked plastic tanks like what Wiseco described, but the broken ones like yours always have the same result.

    tranny noise

If you push the clutch pedal down and the noise goes away, but comes back when you release the pedal, I'd look at the throw out bearing first. If you're gonna go that far, might check the bearings as mentioned, and the thrust washers as well. Honestly, I'd check the fluid level in the trans...

    1500 RPM studder!

Fix your vacuum leak. You know(or are assuming) that the bov is leaking. It could be the root to your problem. Check that the tps connector is plugged all the way in, and that all of the wires are set in the harness connector correctly. Also, check the insulation on the individual wires at...

need help identifying hose leaking coolant

You might try your local hydraulic line repair shop. They'll have a much better grade of hose, and it will withstand much higher temps.

my no spark fix for those wondering

Which terminals? You wouldn't happen to have a pic would you? I've had afm's go out of phase enough to make the car run like crap, but not trip the c.e.l. I have yet to see one cause your symptoms. Odder things have happened, though... Glad you got it fixed. Go easy on JJ, though...

    7m ge overheated/wont start

If you described the symptoms to your "mechanic" as you did here, and all he did was replace the egr gasket, you need a new mechanic. Preferably one who knows what he's doing. If all you did was blow the head gasket, you should consider yourself lucky. Running an engine hot until it quits...

Stupid Mistakes I've made working on stuff, thread..

I left a screw driver sitting on the crank while I bolted the pan on a 5.0 truck motor on the stand today. Rolled the engine over to do the heads and heard it rattling around. Yay... I left the upper rad. hose clamp off on a 2000 Dakota I put a radiator in. It blew apart at about 15 psi. on...

Rattle from under the car after driving around?

Sounds like a torque converter bolt to me as well. My exhaust used to rattle against the subframe for the rear pumpkin, and wuold kinda sound like that as well.

    howling noise

Timing or firing order sounds way off(hesitation when starting), and something is hung up in one of the belts. Could be the tensioner is to tight, as well, or one of the belts is rubbing one of the timing belt covers. Recheck the firing order and timing belt alignment, as well as the...

Cam Pulley Bolt Broke In The Cam

AJ: Depending on who makes it, and the condition its in, yes. The main thing to remember is to always wind it back down down to the bottom before putting it away. Never leave them set.

    Electric Fan

It took two years plus to kill the original, o.e.m. alternator on my car with the Contour fans. Personally, I would recommend keeping the stock clutch fan. For the person who said their clutch fan quit working, there's a write up by Jetjock on how to rebuild it, if you search around a bit...

I've probably got one of those laying around, if you can get out to Baytown, you can have it. Drop me a p.m. if you're interested.

    Codes 14, 51, and 71

The code 14 points to the ignitor or coil. I'd check the wiring first. "Trouble Area * Igniter and ignition coil circuit * Igniter and ignition coil * ECU" As far as the 71, I'd suspect either a dirty EGR, the vsv, or a vacuum leak between them.

    need some help! anyone??

You can get a new TPS from Auto Zone for less than $100, iirc. It's a Toyota part, as well. Make sure that the groove in the back of the new one is clocked the same as the old one. This might help you test the tps a bit better: TPS pinout Instead of testing for resistance, test for...
