I have included a lot of technical reasons as to why the 7M is what I moved away from. I think it is very much about about 7M tech. If you want to get more technical ask some 7M questions.
Lets look at cost differences - that is, costs that are UNIQUE to each powertrain to make safe for 500+ hp and give both engines similar performance characteristics. These estimates do not include other things like injectors, turbo, manifold, etc because you would have to purchase those for BOTH...
Yes, the turbo stuff will add up, but no more than it would for the 7M. A turbo is a turbo, and the braced manifold was only 170 bucks. Turbo lexus setups can be had for under 200 bucks from ss autochrome and they include the downpipe, intake pipe, mani (unbraced) and wastegate dump tube...
Rods are the same in the GE and the GTE.
A 7M CPS can be used in the same way as a 7m with minimal modification in the 2JZGE head.
The CPS goes in the place of the distributor. I am running the recent generation of the AEM ignition.
600 minimum for the dyno
550 or so for the daily...
They have plenty of potential. Set the compression ratio with the appropriate head gasket. Purchase a single turbo manifold and appropriate turbo.... It makes perfect sense.
Yes, you have to go with an aftermarket ignition for high boost levels, but that has nothing to do with the block.......
You should check out the block. I painted it up with some POR15 Engine Enamel. Looks nice. I cant wait to finish painting my engine bay so I can drop the block in.
Nasty.
I will take pics very soon - I just got the shortblock back together last night.
I had the block apart so that I could inspect everything and make sure it was in good condition. I also cleaned all of the carbon out of the piston ring lands. The motor came out of a 94 Supra w/70k miles. It is...
PICS ADDED AT PAGE 14
1. A used 2JZ is more durable/reliable.
2. A used 2JZGE can be sourced very easily for 400 bucks or less. You can re-use the head/rod/cap bolts. 300 for a thick HG and other assorted gaskets. Dont tell me you can build a comprable 7M for that price.
3. Im sick of...
I know that the opinions on crank walk are mixed - some good/bad in relation to pressure plates. Some have problems with their pressure plates while others never do.
I have to purchase a 1jz flywheel anyway +400 bucks for another clutch. Down goes 600 bucks minimum. I would just rather spend...
Thanks for the support guys - trust me, this will get done.
I have the resources, I have the time, I have the skill.
As far as the AEM ignition goes, I have purchased the latest version of it. I was going to go with the DLI, but the latest version of the AEM (from the experience of...
Uhm - not really. Tube and fin intercoolers are, in some instances, more efficient and less prone to heat soak. However, they are not as durable and cant eat as many rocks.
And most of the ebay intercoolers suck. Look at the endtank design. How is the air going to get through the entire core...
I already have everything, Im just taking my time putting it together so that it is quality. I already have most of the parts - some (like the turbo) I still need to purchase.
2JZGE with whatever HG I need for 8.5:1
Single Manifold w/BFTurbo
Custom FFI w/q45 TB
AEM EMS and UEGO W/B w/AEM...
Quick update for you all -
I recently sourced a 2JZ with auto tranny from a lexus (included wire harness) and plan on dropping it in my car this winter. (minus transmission) AEM is in the mix as well.
I plan on a single with 4" all the way back. This is going to be a beast!
Ill post...
You might think im crazy, but I hope gas goes up to $4 a gallon. At least then people might get a clue and get some cars with decent mileage (now look at the global warming thread)
ron, I saw that it is a quad plate, but how much additional pressure does that put on your thrust bearing?
I was just wondering where you got your clutch setup because I need to go with something pretty soon. Im doing a similar swap with a 2jz on a r154. I dont have a clutch yet and dont...
