Yep. I know for a fact that the studs with the threads are part of the trim on 86.5-88's. I could have sworn that the plastic trim on 89-92's have slide in studs, but not sure. Ask Jeff Lange, he should know.

It sounds like rod knock though. I don't think it's the valve lash, it would be heard through all RPMs and be more of a ticking sound.
