If the ECU sees the starter is cranking and no input from the CPS after 2 seconds it assumes a problem, and yes that would include wiring. The ground wire on the coil pack is not needed for the car to run, it is there only for EMI shielding.
This is a great reference for colors. They have all the brochures from 86 to 92, so you can find the exterior/interior options for any year.

I have a similar setup running on an NVIDIA chipset. I had to make the 3rd drive a striped RAID0 array with only one drive, then it was happy. But if you can't even boot into the RAID controller then this isn't going to help you.
You need to do a voltage drop test along the 12V and ground paths between battery and alternator. Find out where your missing 1.2 volts are going. Throwing parts at it is an expensive troubleshooting approach.
One possible cause is a damaged engine loom allowing a wire to ground out when the engine moves or under the right amount of accel/decel. I would say the most common wire is the ox sensor that has touched the manifold and melted the insulation off. The second most common is probably the loom...
The J-tube restriction results in overpressure since the regulator low pressure side gets too high and causes it to lose control. If you don't see a problem chances are you are either running the pump with the stock dual pressure relay/resistor in place which will throttle the pump enough to...
The horn wire is blue-red on most cars, but I'm not sure about 90+ with air bag. Grounding it sounds the horn. I can't imagine how wiring a new horn in could be easier than tapping into the existing wire, but to each his own I guess.
Nick, that drain hose failure you had back in July, any chance that was overheated rubber from super hot oil coming out of the turbo? IJ mentioned this can be an issue, and those hoses are likely only rated to 300F.
On the GE cars, all years, the fuel pump turns on only by the starter circuit being energized, or air flow in the AFM. No way it comes on with just ignition and a stopped motor.
For the GTE, the fuel pump turns on only by the starter circuit being energized, or when a minimum load is reached as...
A misfire does not equal knock, and a code 52 means the knock sensor system is down, it is not sensing, and therefore will run very conservative timing to guarantee knock is not an issue.
