If you're going to drift, go with the 1J. It will live through the revs over and over again. The pistons in the 7M are moving a lot faster at 7K than the 1J pistons are.

It makes little* difference IMO where you put it. Venting hot pre-chilled air makes more sense to me than venting chilled air. The air stops at the TB very quickly so venting near the source of pressure (at the turbo) makes more sense than trying to...
