No one is contesting the basic idea of an aluminum arm wont work but the fact is how well do you trust the designer. A component critical as a suspension arm, something that could mean death you have to ask yourself did they ensure that the part was designed PROPERLY against failure.

Suspension components are designed around stiffness not strength as that is inherent if the part meets the stiffness criteria. Often stiffness/mass, steel comes out on top not aluminum. Again work hardening is not an issue when a component is designed considering fatigue but can be heavier...

So after checking these things the car has turned back to normal. Its been rather cold here lately <10deg c and no issues at start up. Hopefully next time my fuel economy returns.

Also note that the mass flow numbers IJ. posted are for a theoretical cross section, if you would like to be more accurate in your calculations you would need to include pressure drops across pipe length and bend radius's.

No idea but that would make sense I cant find a description of operation, but I see no need for it once the car is running. I guess the same situation could happen if the temp sensor was fubar. BTW I filled up today and it got worse 13.5L/100km.

I guess the point I am trying to make is if a part is designed correctly with consideration taken with regards to the material choice failure can be avoided be it from work hardening, fatigue, stress concentrations, poor material finish ect.
