I was. Now that I think about it I might have replaced the nut too (if that made a difference).

I've run into that same problem. I don't know if this is the right way to do it, but what I did was jack up (or down) the lower A arm until the ball joint wouldn't spin anymore. Doing this seems to lock the joint in there (by friction I assume) so you can tighten the nut all the way.

Here are some pics. For people that are new to this (like I was): you can find the spot welds by either looking closely or running your finger across the metal - you'll feel a circular indentation. I used a 3/8" spot weld drill bit but I think you could use a 1/2" version if you wanted too -...

The 3/8 spot weld bit worked like a charm. There were about 8 welds that I had to drill out but it didn't take long at all.

Its not uncommon for them to leak from the bearing/oil seal thats inside the unit. Then the oil pools inside and drips down through the cap and rubber gasket. If you take off the cap, are the internals oily?

eraezer, I do have AC but it's a manual so it doesn't have the large 3rd fan in front of the radiator (only auto's have that). The intercooler is a genuine Spearco that I bought back in 2003. I can't speak to the room with another IC but the Spearco does give me a fair amount of room there.

In 89, ABS and Automatic still an option and TEMS only came if you ordered the Sport Package. LSD was standard on turbo models and included with the Sport Package on N/A's.

My 89 Turbo doesn't have TEMS or ABS.
