I recently installed an HKS stopper type head gasket. I have a couple questions:
1. Should I avoid boost for now and how long?
2. How many heat cycles should I run before checking the head stud torque, and how long should I wait between cycles? I read that you should check them after 5...
The block was machined when I did my first rebuild, but the head wasn't. The HG barely made 1000 miles. Lessons learned, I checked everything this time and went with a quality gasket.

For anyone that remembers my thread over the summer, I learned the hard way how to properly rebuild a 7M. With less than a couple thousand miles on my rebuild, I blew a headgasket. Here is the thread for those of you that missed it.
After getting the head back from the machine shop and almost...
Its not that bad, I had the head removed and taken apart in a weekend, and that was just with spare time. Total time so far is maybe 6 or 7 hours.

Long story short, you are setting up for disaster and a waste of money. Take the time to save up your money and get your head machined. You will be kicking yourself when the head gasket blows. Adding a Lexus MAF without 550's and a way to monitor your AFRs is asking for melted pistons. Don't...
Speaking from experience, my engine passed every test except for a block test when hot. I tore it down today and it had a very blown head gasket on cylinder 6, with 1, 2, and 5 on the way. After 5 years of owning a Supra, I've joined the BHG club. So my advice, don't waste your time on a...
I would definitely move forward with the leak down test before making any assumptions. In any case though, at a minimum you are looking at all the labor to change the head gasket or more depending on what it turns out to be.

That's my main concern, but I'm pretty sure its one of two reasons.
1. When I bought the car, it has a motor that had a hole in the block, but had been rebuilt right before it blew up. I bought a long block on Ebay and rebuilt it including having the deck milled, but because of the recent...
Update: Block test confirmed BHG. Good news is I caught it early enough that the oil wasn't contaminated, so I should be able to get away with just replacing the HG. thanks for the help.

IJ: Yeah, your post was actually the reason I said "Oh crap!" and did a compression test about a year ago. Now that I think of it, it was 2 years ago.
Suprapowaz: I don't believe it wasn't overfilled, but it pushed out enough coolant that once it cooled back down, the overflow tank was empty...
IJ: It was torqued to spec when I rebuilt it, but it wasn't in place when they machined the cylinders. Oversight on my part.
Everyone else: Block test will be the next thing I do. But I'm still curious if there could be another cause besides BHG, although that is still what I consider the most...
