You're right, I might have to ask around and find some place local I can trust.
What do you think about head gasket compensation though? If I take anymore off the block, I'll be getting thicker than the 2mm gasket I already have. 2mm is already pretty thick!
Thanks
I finally got back on this project again and ordered some parts from Driftmotion. I got a layered 2mm Titan head gasket to compensate for the amount taken off during machining and some ARP head studs to replace my ARP head bolts.
I unbolted the head from the block and found some concerns on...
I'm glad you say go with the Cometic because I was thinking that too. I'm not building a race motor and I want to stay on the cheaper side of things. But based on the consensus, it sounds like I'll still have to buy some head studs. Oh well! Live and learn!
Based on the stock head gasket being 1.37mm compressed, I calculated needing one that is 1.93mm thick. I guess I'd have to go up to a 2mm. Do I even need a "stopper" style, or would one of the other styles work for me? Thanks for the help guys!
I've been working on my 7mgte for about 9 years now. In the beginning I didn't know where to go to find the needed info on my build, so I just talked to a few other 7mgte owners. Based on what they said I had a shop clean and deck (.2mm off) & port and polish the head (intake and exhaust), do...
I'm glad someone asked this simple question because I'm new at all this. Luckily for me, I already know what way I'm going because I bought a Lexus AFM, 550 injectors, and a Walbro 255 fuel pump. I just need to figure out what controller to get and where (and ultimately...how much is one going...
Wow! That's ironic timing for that to happen! Maybe I should reconsider using that stuff. I don't want my rebuild smoking, leading me to think it might be something else.
I looked around and saw that a few people were using the DEI Hi-Temp Silicone Coating. I bought some and I'm getting ready to paint my stock 7MGTE exhaust manifold, turbo inlet, and turbo elbow. It's all been sandblasted inside and out. Does anyone know if I should tape any parts of these off...
Honestly, that's the way I always thought it was spelled, but the place I used to work for had it spelled "electrolisis" on all their paper work. Probably one idiot spelled it wrong and it spread through the whole company! But truth be told, it is spelled this way on certain web sites, so I...
I wish it were that easy! I've been looking for about a year now for this particualr application, that's why I got on here to ask you guys what you all thought.:icon_bigg
Here are some pictures of the manifold and the elbow I had done as well.
As for the nickel getting into the actual motor itself, I know it's a lot for it to go through, but it might mess up something on the way too. Thanks for the thoughts guys.
Thanks guys. I'm not sure the thickness of the plating since its been so long since I had it done. I thought about calling the company, but their customers mainly use this process to keep their parts from corroding and sometimes wear resistance; from what I understand they don't use this for...
I've looked around for a long time now trying to find out if electrolysis nickel plating my exhaust manifold was a bad idea or not. I used to work for a company that had mass amounts of parts plated everyday and when I was a kid it seemed like a good idea to sand blast my 7MGTE exhaust manifold...
