Soarer 1JZ-GTE into 91 Mark III

I just finished up my 1JZGTE swap into my 90. It went pretty good, there is a lot of info out there. The wiring was not too bad, it just took a LONG time to lengthen all the wires. Do them one at a time, and you should have no problem. There are several shielded wires, you can lengthen them...

I was able to pull the speedometer gear out of my old transmission and use it in the new one. It reads correctly now.

    1JZ swap in progress

are you doing the labor, or paying someone to do it? I can see where it would get expensive to have someone else do it. I probably spent 50+ hours on it easily ---------- Post added at 10:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 PM ---------- I had to replace the caps in the ECU, only a...

    1JZ swap in progress

It takes a bit of work, but well worth it. I just got mine on the road, it hauls ass now. There is a lot of good information regarding the swap and troubleshooting. FYI, I spent about $3800 total counting the engine & transmission. If you budget 4K, and have the ability to do it yourself...

Does your speedometer read 15% high or so? I just got done with my 1JZ swap, from a MT to a MT, but the R154 has different gearing, so my speedometer is reading high. I thought they would be off the output shaft.

Help wont rev past 2k and no codes?

I just got a new TPS, Autozone did not have the toyota part, but they had a Duralast one with a 2 year warranty for $92. part number is TPS481 if anyone is interested. it works great now, I just have to replace my radiator now, the fan hit the shroud and threw a piece into the radiator.

1JZ running very rich - fuel in exhaust

I replaced the capacitors in the ECU, it ran good but would not go above 2000 RPM. I replaced the TPS sensor with the correct one, and it runs great now! unfortunately, the fan hit the shroud and shoved a piece into the the radiator. The new radiator will be in tomorrow. The shroud is beyond...

Help wont rev past 2k and no codes?

I am having the same problem. My Apexi AVC shows the throttle position correctly though. I called Aaron at Driftomotion, he said the correct part number is 89452-22080. I have 89452-30150. Does anyone know if it can be rewired, or do I need to get a new TPS?

It is funny $4 in parts and it may solve those problems.

1JZ running very rich - fuel in exhaust

I opened up my ECU and found a few leaky capacitor! I just ordered them from Mouser, hopefully in a few days I will be able to take the 1JZ out for a spin.

1JZ running very rich - fuel in exhaust

OK, I checked the injectors, none leaked any fuel with the ignition on. Also, for giggles, I disconnected the O2 sensor to see if that would help, but it still was pumping way too much fuel into it. Would the capacitors in the ECU cause this? I can replace them a whole lot easier than...

1JZ running very rich - fuel in exhaust

Thanks, I will check the injectors. What are the odds that 3 or 4 injectors would all be bad? Is there any way to test the ECU other than swapping it out?

1JZ running very rich - fuel in exhaust

I recently got my 1JZ in my 90 Supra, it will start and run, but not for long. After 20-30 seconds of running, I start getting fuel coming out of my exhaust and several of the spark plugs are coated in fuel. I can dry them off, get the standing liquid out of the cylinder and start it up again...

    1JZ swap in progress

OK, I replaced all the plugs, they were had a little carbon on them. It still won't start. I pulled the coil packs for 5 & 6 to see if they were getting spark when I turn it over, and they were. It just turns over, not even a sputter, just making my garage smell like fuel. Plus, there are no...

    1JZ swap in progress

Well, I have all the sensors finally, and the ECU is showing no error codes, but it won't start. It is getting fuel, I have not pulled a plug yet to see if they are just fouled up or what. That will have to wait until I get more time later in the week. I just want to drive it.

    1JZ swap in progress

I got a new O2 sensor, it had 4 wires. A little research online shows that the fourth wire is the sensor ground. It is grounded through the casing as well, so that fourth wire is not necessary. Just the two heater wires, which are non-polarized, and the sensor wire. Now all I have left is the...

Just a picture of the lengthened harness. All wires were extended almost 3 feet, it made it a lot easier to get everything through the firewall that way.

    1JZ swap in progress

It Runs! I got it started this morning, I am getting fault codes 21 (O2 sensor), 22 (water temp sensor), and 31 (air flow meter) Anyone have any idea about 31? I thought the 1JZ used a MAP, not a MAF sensor. I don't remember where I found these, but these diagrams were 100% correct for...

    1JZ swap in progress

Well, I got my intercooler mounted, and all the pipes installed for it. If you ever do that yourself, make sure you have an electric mitre saw. If you had to do that with a hacksaw, you would be really hating life. Also, while I was connecting my heater hoses, I found that the hose I got...

    1JZ swap in progress

actually, I just had the R154 yoke installed on my driveshaft, it fits perfectly. My stock exhaust is about an inch short of the driftmotion downpipe, so I will have to get new exhaust made. I got the 2JZ throttle cable in, that just barely made it, and the round opening on the throttle...
