I measured mine today and it has valves like the left pic. It came to 43cc with a stock spark plug fitted and original head thickness of 116mm.
Edit: I remeasured it a couple more times and its 42cc.
I also meausred the piston dish of an old NA piston and it is 11cc.
Anybody got good pics of a deshrouded 7M head.
It seems that the intake valves are a bit shrouded where they are at the closest point to the chamber walls.
I have read that you need to maintain atleast 20% of the valve head diameter clearance. Around the chamber walls the stock head has...
I fitted a 4 wire to my cressida 7mge a few years back.
It was an NGK generic 4 wire unit and I used a relay to switch it on and off. The relay tapped into the fuel pump resistor circuit that was mounted close by and thankfully the fuel pump is only on when the engine is running.
I chased this problem around for years and did all of the above.
One day I had to change the airflow meter for another reason and to my surprise my hot start problems were gone.
I think it must be the little fuel pump switch in the airflow meter stuffing up when hot.
My 2 bobs worth anyway.
Did anybody ever take a head cross section through ports.
Like the picture in this link of a 4AGE head.

The one on IJ's thread is through the centre and doesn't really show the ports. I am particularly interested in the shape around the valve guide.
IMHO
The downfalls in the 7M design are.
1. Due to the undersquare design (small bore long stroke) the engine output at high rpm is limited. This is due mostly to small valves relative to the cylinder capacity and the high average piston speed at high rpm.
2. Other factors are the inlet...
My experience has been that the clearances will come in pretty close when swapping cams. As a result not many of the shims will need changing. Just measure all the shim thicknesses and write it down when the cam is out.
Turbo and NA engines have the same Toyota part number for the exhaust cam.
I have seen before and after dyno sheets on a NA engine where power went up by about 10rwkw.
I have been running Brain Crower stage 2 cams in my 7mge for over a year now. They have provided a good improvement in performance and for the price I am a happy. All the base circle diameters were spot on and all clearances came in within about 3 thou of the factory cams. I only adjusted two...
Have a look at a Cressida motor. It uses the turbo style intake plenum and throttle body.
It has peak torque at 1000rpm higher and makes the same peak power. It does make it a lot easier to change the spark plugs.
Rain drops are spherical. The tear drop shape that is familiar to most is just an artistic impression that we have all come to know.
Shot towers make sperical lead shot by dropping little balls of molten lead that forms into spherical balls.
