From what I've read, the 2JZ swap will cost at least twice as much as the 1JZ swap. The wiring would be a nightmare, also, but do-able. Better know your electrical!
You can get the engine set from Venus Auto for $1500. Comes with the tranny, harness, engine, and I believe ECU. They will probably throw in the driveshaft if you ask.
A full clip would be better, but would run you about $2,000.
Good luck finding something for $1,000! :)
The solenoid clicks every time you turn the key, so I don't think its that. And all the grounds on the engine and tranny are brand new, beefy 8 guage grounds with gold contacts. I spared no expense on the electrical. Hopefully its not the grounds.
I'll check into the new contacts. Good...
Forgot to mention that I also helped the clutter by removing the A/C and power steering. Then I fabricated a custom alternator bracket/tensioner for the passenger side of the engine. I ordered a Gates belt in a custom length to completely eliminate the serpentine, ugly system in the car from...
Labor Day weekend proved to be all that was needed to put the wraps on my 1JZ swap project. Its been a looong road, but I intended to go slow and figure each problem out and find the best solution that would give me the best result. I think I have achieved that.
Looks
The engine bay...
Let me make a clarification for anyone else trying this...
The 2JZ water pump will NOT work with the 1JZ water pump housing. You will need to get both, along with the 2JZ pulley. I found this out the hard way :3d_frown:
Awesome, thanks for the info!
However, are the electrical connections the same? I went to have my 1JZ alternator tested at the local Auto Parts store on their sweet testing machine. They can just plug in the replacement part number and hook up the right electrical adapter that the system...
I have some more noob questions for you kind folks :)
I am going to put in an electric fan and scrap the hydraulic system from the 1JZ fan and water pump. Will a 2JZ water pump fit the 1JZ? Will it work with the serpentine belt system?
Other question is will a 2JZ 90 amp alternator fit...
Also, what disc did you get with the Sport pressure plate? 6 puck or disc? Can you slip it at all?
I have a 6 puck in my Stratus and its pretty harsh for the street. I'd like something a bit more slippable.
Just wanted to get any additional ideas you guys have on sources and clutch options for the R-154. I've done a search, but since the old site died, we are sorely lacking information.
I am planning on pricing just the disc from Toyota (stock replacement) and tracking down some aftermarket...
Vickie is there until at least 5pm PST... which would be 8pm your time. Hopefully, that gives you a window after work where you can contact them.
On the compression test, you may be right. I am crossing my fingers on my engine that they did the test and it works fine!
Contact info...
Mine was $2000 + shipping. They found a hole in the intercooler before it was shipped, which knocked off $200 on my price, but otherwise it would have been $2000. Shipping ended up being about $500 with liftgate delivery (cut that roughly in half if you are able to pick it up yourself).
