Absolutely, but a 1000 Hp proper build is well over 4000... I have seen them for over 14,000.00
My budget isn't going to allow for that, although ideally I would love to.
I will be going with forged pistons (wiseco) and polished rods. I can afford that, but I can't overbuild like I originally...
Initially I wondered about the supercharger over the turbo on a 7M (or even a 2j) and in the end, it goes to design. If you succeed, you will be the first.
However... if you were told nobody feeds a horse fresh cut lawn grass because fresh cut hay is better and you decided to be different, dont...
lol, I hear a lot of "I prefer the MK3 to the MKIV... less generic and european looking.. more muscle.."
and always followed by the obligatory...
"are you going to 2j it?"
Think I may just get custom plates that say NO ITS 7M
With his build, I dont think he can "safely" go over 15 psi. (is that correct?) Just looking at internals and I dont think you want to run stock rods and pistons on more than that without risking issues with the engine happening suddenly. The turbo may handle it and for short bursts possibly no...
Unfortunately for the buyer, you did what I did and bought a car with potential and may have not really understood the warts. I paid 6000 CDN for my car with an engine that I now find is shot on the bottom end (even though the head is fine now that I had it reconditioned and actually have valve...
I drove a 6 puck, and didn't mind it, but I wanted to steer away from it as I found it a bit "un-clutchy" for my foot. It help perfectly well, it just felt subtly different. Thats why I got the spec2+ clutch, its non-pucked and should hold fine. My OEM would probably have held as well as...
I was looking at Stage 2 clutches and thought the rating was a bit underbuilt.
Was thinking of Stage 3, but wasn't sure if I should go with ACT, Competition Clutch or any of the ebay ones. ebay parts still scare me, although some do look decent.
IN the end, I was thinking about going with this...
publically.. I agree... privately I say to hell with it...waste him.. lol. My car is a BMW magnet.. its funny. I have ended up in a lot of 5-6 car "cruises" on the highway where we just end up beside each other and then start bunching up at higher speeds. But BMW's seem to pull up beside me a...
I wouldnt be swapping the bolts, your risking unseating the head. You can do a re-torque and providing the bolts haven't stretched you would be fine. The whole problem with running 13 lbs of boost on an "unknown" engine state is that if you have any motor problems, your gonna magnify them. If...
well.. the alternator failed today, so I grabbed the one off of my 88 MK3. Apparently, the 88 Manual version is bigger than the 90 Auto... Luckily.. I have an 87 MK3 sitting in the garage and that one works good. Now I will have to find a plug and rewire it, because I noticed that the white lead...
Okay.. the only thing worse than a little information is too much information.. lol.. I am a little overloaded with too much research, not enough understanding.
I currently run a stock clutch (no idea of mileage..) and am doing a 57 Trim upgrade (lexus afm and 550's supporting it, but no...
^^ agreed.
However.. "trusted" aint easy. I called and emailed and talked to people for over 2 full days (ignoring work to do it.. lol) trying to zero in on a place I could use. This forum has a lot of excellent people who helped me find my direction... dont use them if you dont feel right...
I would go Cometic (actually.. I am going Cometic... ).
You aint touching 500 HP with your setup... so you dont have to worry about that rating... a stock build with a Cometic headgasket will do you if everything else is fine. A stock 7MGTE can do your power goals quite fine.. as long as there...
lol.. Im doing epretty much what you are doing other than no upgraded intercooler yet (later.. later... ). Unfortunately, my block cant be used, so have to purchase a new shortblock and I will be using a 57 trim. Car isn't built yet so cant comment on what its like, but I did run a built 7MGTE...
Yes.. lap the head and machine the block normally for a metal hg. You dont actually need ARP's.. they are just good to have. Stock head bolts will hold for what your doing. I wouldn't go over 15lbs of boost though.
Simple really...
tell him to bring you back the car and you will refund him 1/2 the purchase price. Its basically what he is offering you.. but reversed. If its fair... its fair.
Otherwise, tell him you were up front with him and can't be bothered past that point.
Found a shortblock in Ontario.. woot! Being built as stock (considered forged, but then nixed it, changing up the build to a higher than necessary build isnt really smart for me at this point.. I just want rock solid for 350-400 HP...
After doing the research/hunt/panic/hunt/research cycle, I...
