Spent the last few weekends installing a new media system.
First things first, you have to be able to power it so an Optima red-top and a 140 amp alternator from Driftmotion were in order. Shiny parts add 5 Hp right?!?
The head unit was a bitch, not so much because of fitment or anything...
Can confirm that it wasn't the control unit, once I swapped the units the fan still didn't work. In fact last weekend I lost all fan control. Time to dig into that. At least the new one isn't all torn up from wear and exposure.
The climate control module on my 87 lost it's low fan switch and the button faces are all chewed up and wrinkled. If I swap out to a newer years eg 1990 module is it still plug and play?
I just went through this with my 87. Pax side window would go down with either side switch but wouldn't go up. Electrically speaking the pax window switch is a slave to the drivers side. If you remove the drivers side switch and disassemble (do it carefully, lots of small parts to drop!) below...
In the process of bringing my 87 out of winter hibernation I cracked the nipple on the coolant reservoir cap. Now it just sucks air and won't draw coolant back into the block when it cools down. Local Toyota dealership has the part listed as no longer available and asking at other parts stores...
Sorry dude, my comment was not related to that. More so that the 7M engines are known for having low head bolt torque values from the factory that result in blown head gaskets. Might as well get that done now and not have to worry about it down the road. Look around this site and you will find...
Installed one of these today, seems like a pretty solid unit. Oil pressure seems to be the same. I have used the Pure One filter (PL10241) previously based on good info here but last year the local parts store ditched the Purolator line. On the last change I went with a Wix 51068 filter and ran...
I wasn't in much of a mood for turning wrenches after the events in Reno but I tackled the retorque this morning. Some of the bolts were definitely "stuck" more than others but all the time spent chasing and lubing the threads in the block paid off. Nothing broke. A tip to any who might be...
I've gone over the recommended 5 heat cycles with burping the coolant and driving to work for 3 days but I will most certainly be doing the retorque after I get back from the Reno Air Races. From what I have gathered the procedure is to break the stiction on each bolt and retorque individually...
