I did not stop to think for one second that the harmonic balancer bottoms out onto the timing pulley. That would make sense (regardless of the #2 timing cover being in between them--there is a hole allowing them to contact)...

So I went to my school's engineering machine shop and told/showed one of the shop guys what had happened to my crank timing pulley. I told him that I'd like to weld the guide/ring onto the timing pulley. And so the guy agreed...
