They issued me 4 uniforms, and I get money every year to buy new ones. When I'm out of the military, I'll keep them. Good for the desert, and good for woodland hunting.
What is dumb is that the Air Force is changing it's uniforms. We went away from the old service dress blue coat in 1997, and that pissed me off - the Air Force came from the Army Air Corps, and our service dress coat was the same as the Army service dress, but blue. There was tradition behind it, and it looked MUCH sharper than what they have now. I am told that there is a NEW service dress blue set coming out, and it looks much more like the old army style coat, again. Your tax dollars at work, folks.
Then there is the new BDU [battle dress uniform - your camouflage uniforms]. It's digitized and much like the Army's new ACUs, but with blue-ish grey in the pattern. What the hell for?! So the Air Force can be blue. Stupid! What they need to do is give us the Marine Corps digitized desert pattern for deployments and urban camouflage [different shades of grey, with a little black] or the ACU for maintainers, because frankly, most of the people who work on aircraft are in an urban environment [flightline, buildings, runways].
Then there is the new PT gear, for when you do your physical training. It's a grey shirt with the new Air Force logo on front and back in a silver reflective vinyl, and blue shorts with the same style. The shirts are great, but the shorts are horrible. I'm pretty slim and I had to get an X-large set of shorts to make them fit. That is insane! I have a 34 waist, and the waistband on a XL set of shorts is still stretched a bit! They also have an inner liner [like a set of swimming trunks] and constantly ride-up between my junk and thighs. You would think that they would want you to be comfortable while stretching, running and doing your pushups and situps.
So there is my rant about uniforms. I will be free from this uniform regime in 81 days.
