Today my baby gets some window tinting after I pick her up from the paint shop. I talked with the tinting place and have two options, both Global Window Films:

1. Charcoal - Standard Dye based 20% @ $119 w/ lifetime warranty
2. Performance - Metal based 20% @ $175 w/ lifetime warranty

The car was done in Supra Red with some use of black (pics coming soon). I don't want to do anything tacky, and I'm having a hard time picturing things when she's done. The guy at the tint shop said he has installed lots of the Performance on Jags, Bimmers, and his bosses '06 Vette (which is in the shop receiving new twin turbos).

So, my questions are whether anybody has any experience with these products, and would it be ricey to go with the Performance? It has a light sheen to it, but it's extremely durable from what I've heard.

I'm bringing her over at lunch today, so speak up! Thanks.

it may be to late or you may have your mind set already but, i've been tinting professionally for five or six years now. used lots of different films.

your metalized films will generally last longer but are reflective. in my opinion unless u like the mirror look i would only use it for matching to existing films.

if you want it to last i would only use a few brands of films.
Llumar, madico, and 3M. they are some of the best fims you can buy. film companies will sell three year film with a liftime warranty. so it doesn't mean it will last, and if you do have issues. it will most likely be more problems than its worth. plus its hard to get someone to warranty illegal work.

always look at the installers work before you commit. check for close and straight lines at the windows edge. no jags or waves. and most important cleanliness. a small spec here and there are ok. no boulders.

always clean the car and the windows before you take the car in. make sure theres no tape or stickers on the glass. the less dirt there is the less time the installer has to spend cleaning and the better job you get.

spend alot of time looking for the right tinter. theres alot of jabronies claiming to be tinters but aren't quit good enough. a good tint job can set your car off. a bad one can make it look worse than it did before you got it tinted.
good luck.
