i think it would be cool to put together a 7m powered mk2 drag car to go on the show pinks. a fast one could be built relatively inexpensively... completely gutted and stripped of non drag racing required items.

is it possible at all to swap mkIII suspension into an mk2? would that be beneficial at all? i have a spare MK3 with an old beat up engine turbo everything... just no transmission... (in comes th400 and mk2 chasis)

anybody think its a good idea? got cool ideas for it if i do it? i wouldnt be able to do it by myself id need help for sure, so if this turns out to be a good idea i might try and set up a team to go on pinks and race for pinkslips.

(in case anybody doesnt know what pinks is, its a dragracing show on speed)

I dont think that it would be that bad of an idea.

The MKIII susp. would not be a direct swap and not worth the trouble. If anything, a solid rear axle from a truck would be a better swap. The reason for is that with independent rear susp., it is very hard to get anti-squat, but a basic 4-link solid rear axle, anti-squat is very easy to achieve and offers greater traction.

Other then that, just gut the car, put the turbo on it and go race it.

mkii l type.. iirc they have solid axles.. only a 6.7 rear iirc (if its the same as the celicas) but just replace it with a ford 9" :)

I am not the most educated person when it comes to the MKII, but I do know that atleast the last year or two MKII supra had independent rear susp., and I do know that the 84 celica had a solid axle, but maybe some of the earlier MKII supras had solid axles

well i know with the celicas.. the GT's were solid axle no fender flares plain interior and the GTS's were IRS with flares with the 'sport' (better seats).. I think the same olds true for the Supras.. They had the L type and a P type.. P had flares, irs, 'sport' interior and L had no flares, plain interior (and I assume solid).. i'm not 100% though..

Yeah that's fine and dandy, but what'll we do with the prize car if we win? we certainly can't share it and take the last three posters (me included) locations for an example...
Florida, Ohio, Massachusetts.
It's not like we're all centrally located and can come by and work on the car after work...

The problem with Pinks is that the faster your car is the more car lengths your opponent will ask for. Pretty lame. I wish they would do it on a racetrack instead of a drag strip, that would be more interesting.

well.. im looking for people around the BC area who want to participate.. but this forum will be tremendously helpful for finding used parts... i want to do this on a budget... i've got a LOT of stuff to donate to this project already so it'll mostly just be performance stuff i need.

a solid rear axle would be good.. but how much more work/money would it be to fab that up? and what years and models had the solid rear?

Im going with an mk2 chasis/body because an mkiii is just too piggish. and i want more speed than i need to go on pinks because i dont wanna get screwed.

and as for the prize car thing.. again, i wanted to make a race team.. the team would keep te car as a race car... but more than likely we would sell it back to the guy for about a grand and split the money.. you guys do know that basically nobody actually keeps the cars, they just sell em back for a cheap price....
