What motor oil should I use in my 7MGTE? (I ask after reading all sticky threads)

I live in the East Bay area of nothern california. I just put about 2000miles on my fresh motor and I want to go synthetic. Redline and GC are the most common in the stores around me. I was looking more towards Redline. Is one better than the other?

I have NPR pistons, Clevites, AZ performance pump pipe, and a shimmed oil pump. What weight Redline or GC should I use?

Re- read this thread. Then read Motor Oil 101 in my sig.

Not trying to necrofuck a thread, but I'm reading the 101 in your sig and I'm still extremely confused. I just bought some mineral Castrol GTX 10W-30 and feel that I might have made a mistake based on what little I am understanding.

I like Rotella t6 5w-40. Runs great in the 7m. very popular with subaru sti guys. it's tough stuff.

Rotella is a great oil, but using it because it's popular with the STI guys is NOT a very good reason....

German Castrol is hard to beat in the Toyota motors - a much lower cold start viscosity vs Rotella.

For cold starts, do any of you guys prime your came first? I usually crank mine for 20 seconds or so, then start the car to ensure oil has flowed to the top and on my bearings :)

I recently filled up my car with mobil 1 0w40 european formula. I have read how its great oil and it was on special at autozone with mobil 1 filter. in about 3k miles I will change it and send it to blackstone labs to see how it turns out and I'll send in some fresh oil as well and see how it differs.
