what are these plugs on block?

i bought this jdm 7M engine and noticed some large plugs on the drivers side of the engine. What are they for? Is this some plugs for holes to remove the sand from casting? They are above the freeze plugs and are threaded and have a large hex wrench hole for removal/insertion.

I dont have these on my 90 usdm 7M. I have not opened up the engine yet but it appears to be a pre 89 engine.

I had two of those as well on a 88 Turbo motor but I do not have these on my 89+ JDM motor.

That's for the flux capacitor upgrade

My original 86.5 block had those my 92 has pressed in freeze plugs.

Probably a cost cutting thing.
