as some of you know ive been haveing issues with my drivetrain sense i bought the supra....car used to shake pretty bad once i got to 45 mph....clutch wouldnt compleatly disengage...

well friday night i clocked out of work at 8:45 pm and started the install of the new trans, spec/fidanza flywheel, clutch, master/slave cylinders, and shaftmasters single piece aluminum driveshaft...

this was the first time i did a transmission by myself and the first time ive done any real work to the supra.....i had some issues getting the starter off but once i figured i could get my hand up there from the bottom of the car and feel the top bolt it really wasnt hard at all...now that ive done it i could do it again easy i believe....top bell houseing bolts are actually very easy if you have atleast 3' worth of ratchet extensions and a pivot.

once i got the transmission out i quickly found out why the clutch would not disengage from time to time.....car had an OEM disk with rubber shock absorber type things instead of springs....one of the rubber absorbers blew apart and was just bouncing around inside the pressure plate and probably getting wedged between the plate and the disk causeing it not to let go very well.....

had some issues with the fidanza flywheel cause the center bore was a few thousandths undersize and so i basicly had to use the bolts to press the flywheel onto the crank but it finally went on and everything was balanced....

now takeing everything apart was almost easy but i had one bastard of a time getting the new trans into place by myself.....it got very heavy really fast and if it hadnt sliped into place at the time it did i would have been screwed cause i compleatly lost all energy....my arms felt like rubber! Once i got it in i just laid under there for a good 20 min trying to catch my breath lol...damn near shitmyself trying to get the trans to line up.....took about 6 tries but it finally went in.

in all honesty the trans sucked....but getting the master cylinder out of the car was probably the most angering and time consumeing....i ended up takeing the drivers seat out so i could lay under the dash.

id like to thank everyone for the hints and tips....and now that its all over i feel that i went in knowing as much as possible and didnt come to anything i didnt expect..yall nailed it on the head and i had no surprises that i wasnt prepaired for! Took me 11.5 hours to get everything done and i could probably beat that time if i had to do it again but i definetly dont want to anytime soon!

I had the EXACT clutch issue with my 1977 celica! The pressure plate has all sorts of rubber stuck in it and was only letting the plate apply halfway. Couldnt even hold the 90 or so insane horsepower lol.
I took out the disk and it looked fine, and I moved the hub to inspect the condition of the rubbers... and "ooooooh they arent there, that may have caused a few of my problems!"
Putting in a new clutch lowered the 0-60 times a full 7 seconds!!!! ROFL, from 19s to 12s! Horrible I know! 7MGTE swap starts the 19th of this month! YAY!

Gaboon good show on the install and the marathon process !! I recently installed a Fidanza also. I had the same tight fit, but did some reading. Due to the expanxion rate difference between Aluminum and cast iron the Fidanza is made with a tight tolerance there. I used a heat gun to slowly warm the flywheel and it eased onto the crank end a bit easier ^^
