Vin # Location Question

I’m having some problems with my insurance company over my Vin number. My car is an 87 but the windshield Vin was not stamped. I believe they were painted on and mine has faded away. I guess the car has had some bodywork at some time so the driver’s side door does not have a number on it. The only place I can get a number from is the data tag under the hood. It’s the same number that’s embossed into the fire wall. My insurance company ran it and said it’s not a valid number. Apparently the 10th digit is a number not a letter. Anyway, my title has the same number as the number on the data plate. Is there another location other than the firewall, windshield or driver side door that might have this number? Does the motor of the frame have it?

same here, double check with your ins company.

vin on the windows was a dealer option IIRC, just like it is today

Along the frame in the front IIRC. Before I put my 87 in the shop to get the motor installed, it was a shell and I remember seeing a couple VIN plates under the car near the front bumper, on the frame I believe. Also, if you pop the hatch open and look next to the seal where the water runs down you should see a VIN plate on the passenger side of the car in that valley.
