That engine in the pic has not been punched out eighty thousandths of an inch.
Once agian you are mistaken. I have the block sitting in front of me and measured it and now you are telling me it is not an 85mm bore. O.K. what ever you say Nick. Dude, go away if you dont know what you are talking about Mr. I built 200 toyota engines.
Thanks IJ I will do that and also check all the other ones as well.

stock bore is 83mm...
.040" is 84mm my personal prefference.
85 = .080"
86 = 2jz = same bore spacing= doable with new sleeves.

I come from a land down under
Jake: I thought the 2J's were wider bore spacing?
(ie: longer crank)

86mm bore stock and appear to have more meat between cylinders.

O.K. here is the deal. This is the motor I pulled out of my car. My shop just cleaned up the cylinders and had to order the rings because the Toyota rings I bought obviously were wrong. He also said that the oil ring is 3mm on these and stock is 4mm. Anyways the pistons appear to be marked with an S and an R over top of it leading them to believe they were Ross, they also hav two sets of numbers. First is 058 and the 2nd is 140. I have a photo I will upload to see if you guys know for sure.

When I tore the block down the cylinder walls were in awesome condition so the block appeared to hold up pretty well.

I brougt this one back. There is the thread about new shortblock numbers. One was checked and the bore spacing is at least 2mm bigger on the upgraded 7M block.

I just wanted to point out I was wrong, and that is why it doesn't look overbored.

wow! back from the dead. It is interesting about the bore spacing though. Also I ended up ordering another cometic mhg that was the proper size. The build went great and motor has about 1000 miles on it. Havent driven her for the past few months due to having the turbo sent out to MDC and doing a FFIM set up along with other stuff.
