My work offers a discount with turbotax, I clicked the link to apply the code(you can not manual enter the discount). The main TT site shows the discount applied as federal basic edition - $free, state - $24.95. e-file included with both.

I go through the process rejecting the option to go to deluxe edition. At the end I get the bill for fed -$10.45, state $29.95. Its not That much but I mean its not $Free. Not sure where in the process the amounts just change with out approval or notice.

I emailed and will see what they say I guess, not sure if Ill even bother since Im not getting a return shesh.

I think it depends on how much you make.
I forget.

No, never says anything about that lol. I emailed and they said they will refund the difference back to $free + $24.95. So, Ill see I guess when that happens.

Weird, pretty sure I used it last year and I didn't get charged.

Yea I dunno, I got back an email saying you start out free but if you use any 'special' features it costs more. I just did bare bones basic, no idea where my special features kicked in.

They dont want to resolve anything online, they want a phone call. I hate calling people in india and waiting on hold. At this point 15 bucks Vs. indian tech support, just isnt worth it to me. :nono:

Seriously, any time anything (with computers) goes wrong I figure it out myself, some Hindi giving me garbled directions I probably wouldn't understand face to face doesn't help at all.

I haven't used TurboTax since back when the program would dial a modem into them directly. That must have been mid-late 90's, but before '98. I've been using H&R Block online for years now. I might go into one of their stores this year and have it done though; looks like getting out of the military and getting a decent job where I make 2x the pay means I'm getting bumped into a higher tax bracket. My return is going to be really small, but I guess that's a good thing as far as taxes go. I'm glad I picked that middle percentage now when I was hired, or I would owe a chunk of change!
It would appear that it is time to break out the itemized deductions this year.. work expenses, donations to charity, etc.

As far as extra costs, I remember that filing taxes online was free, but there were stipulations, like you had to make less than a certain amount of money, and only had to fill out a 1040EZ.

I never call tech support, unless its a warranty issue that requires it for the paper work. Its not just tech stuff thats in india, its basically any call center.

I dont get why stuff like this issue with TT they cant have people emailing/chatting. Why do they require a phone call to resolve this issue. Youd think a guy sitting emailing could get more done effectively. It would also get rid of the language issue yet they insist on the phone.

Yea, again Im doing the bare bones EZ short forms and make scrap money lol. The Only thing I can think of now is I have a 1099int form, that might have added the fees. It never said anything as I was adding that form though. At least warn me 'adding this form will incur this fee' or something.
