I have a guy who has an 84 supra turbo. He is offering to sell me everything i need off the car for the turbo conversion except for the oil cooler. Somewhere in the mix it got lost. Im going to check it out tomorro or tuesday. He wanted 175 but i talked him down to 125. So my question is as long as the stuff is in good shape (and he says it is) is this a good deal? Im new to the shole turbo scene so what excatly should i be looking for when im checking it out to make sure its a good working turbo kit. The reason he is selling it is because he swapping the motor. Not sure what he is putting in it but he said its going to be way better. And where can i get an oil cooler i can use with it. He has the inlet and outlet lines for just not the actual oil cooler. Thanks in advance and sorry for the newbish questions.

84 Supra didn't come turbo'd - so what exactly does he have?

If it's a pieced together kit, there's no telling if you have it all or not. $125 for a good turbo and manifold would be worthwhile, though.

That said, you need to look at the turbo for obvious signs of oil coming out the compressor, or the turbine.

Grab the compressor wheel, and check for play - push it in and out (you should not be able to feel it move in or out) and side to side (a little play is ok here - but it should not hit the housing. Push it gently to the side, and ensure it spins GENTLY without hitting the housing)

Other than that, ask him if it includes the following:

Turbocharger
Manifold
Oil feed line
Water feed line
Oil return line
Water return line
Turbo elbow
Downpipe

The more of that you are getting, the better off you will be.

That said, what the hell will it all be going into?? (aka what do you have?)

*EDIT* Ok your profile says you have an Auto/NA (I'm sorry ;))

Hell, I could sell you everything you need, except the turbocharger itself, and the water lines. Find out what you are getting, and I'll help you out with whatever you are missing to put the turbo on your car :)

Boost it Burntz... Trust me, an NA is just as prone to KABLOOM as a turbo... Just boost it the right way an you'll have a reliable car...

And yeah, 84s werent turbo...

His supra is an 84 auto. But he got the whole kit from an 89 turbo i believe. He has many many projects going on at once and he said he could never find the time to do the conversion. I guess the supra was the least attractive of his projects. He is a big mustang fellow. He said that he has the turbo, manifold, oil lines, intercooler and piping. He said he has everything you need because like i said he had pulled it off of another supra because he was going to do it to his. I forgot to ask about the downpipe and stock bov and piping. I didnt know about the turbo elbow? What excatly is this and what does it look like? is there a good section on here that shows the individual parts of the conversion? Like i said Turbo is a whole new thing to me. But i love reading and learning new things. Iv always wanted a reliable boost. But with my old eclipse it was way to expensive since the 3g eclipse's didnt come stock turbo on any of them.

Doward - I will keep you in mind because for some reason i have a feeling there is going to be something missing from the set up. So i will be hitting u up im sure. Hopefully he will call me tomorro. He said he will call me he gets time from work and i can come over and look at the parts.

Sounds like a good plan. Check that turbo as I mentioned previously (if it needs rebuilt, I'd suggest just upgrading to a 57 trim as part of the rebuild).

Pick it all up, and post pics of what you get - we'll be able to tell you what else you need :)

Burntz - No differences between GE and GTE block, other than oil squirters.

except for pressure and return ports, and having to drill and tap the knock sensors ports... and having to do a rebuild if I'm going to get into that far.. :(

LOL, ok it needs a little work - and if you are going to go turbo, I'd recommend checking out the condition of the inside of the motor anyway.

New bearings and rings won't hurt! MHG, as well!

57 trim is a bigger turbine in the stock housing if I'm correct, it just means you can make more power at lower rpms, due to the bigger turbine (think bigger tire = more mph, but longer to get their) same concept..

Bigger compressor wheel ;)

It's a T04e 57trim wheel, stuffed into a stock CT26. It increases the amount of airflow per rotation of the wheel, letting you run more boost and do so more efficiently (making more power) than the stock CT26.

Personally, I think the 57 trim is what the car should have come with, from Toyota!

Talk to Jon @ MDC Motorsports for the upgrade. Generally about $600, completely balanced and ready to run!

Sounds good... So how much is this turbo going to help with my stock injectors. Im going to get some 440cc's but i just wanted to do some more research and make sure that i have everything for the turbo first. Will be ok to run on my stock injectors untill i can get some in about amonth or so? How much psi will i beeble to run with my stock injectors and then with the 440cc's? Thanks again doward you seem to be helping me out the most....LOL

Is that all i would need for a decent upgrade from just the stock turbo and fuel system? afm? some kind of fuel management? so would it hurt to just buy the 550's now? or are the pointless without some more upgrades?

lexus air flow meter, combined with 550's, pretty much cancels each other out as far as air/fuel goes, so their is less tuning, and it matchs the 57 trim nicely, I dont have personal experience, but from I've read, thats one of the best combos if you dont want to have to get into details like crazy.
