Get a socket that fits the bolts on the Y-pipe, and if you have small hands like me, just unbolt it from the pipe, and then from the head.

I've done it like 4 times on the 5m, and once on the 7m to fix the leak (new gasket)

I guess you can always do this trick, park your front wheels on something on high level, where the car is leaning up and get under there and get dirty!!

well, i think this is god's way of telling me to go NA-T, so i might not even need to separate these. we'll see, oh yes.

but if you do have a technique, feel free to chime in

I thought you already had the head off? Anyway, I usually undo it at the cat. Easier to get to. Then you can pull the whole thing out and separate it.

Head and cat, never seperated a stock header before. Ive even pulled the exhaust mani plus cat as one piece.

yeah the head is off, but i was trying to just get the manifold off the downpipe so i could drill the holes bigger (since the studs are slightly crooked)
