Is there one? Someone said in another board to me since I am doing a swap on my 4Runner that I could not use if it has been sitting more than 18 months already.

Also, how would someone know what the dealer sells you or put in your vehicle if serviced by them?

Thanks for the input.

Okay, I got this from another bbs.

Someone said not to use it b/c the red coolant contains organic and inorganic salts, which makes it silicate based. Non- silicate based coolant has a shelf life of up to 8 years, however, silicate based coolants have a shelf life of 18 months.

What do you guys think?

I have never heard of a shelf life on coolent, just that you want to change it every XXXXX miles or something like 2-3 years. But I guess I dont ever just keep a new bottle of coolent around, I just run out and buy some when I need it. I dont know what "toyota" charges for coolent but run to wal-mart and buy a new jug for $10 if your worried about it. Also "red" coolent?!?!?!?!?!!! I have only seen and used green and orange (the GM 5 year stuff) coolent.

But if your friend above said no and he seems to know what he's talking about I guess I would listen to him and not use it.

Toyota coolant is silicate free. IMO, what you have is fine to use.

You do not want to use an organic acid based coolant like GM DexCool in a 7M...ever.

HOAT coolant like Zerex G-05 is fine to use, but make sure the system is completely flushed with water. This is my coolant of choice.

BTW - coolant color doesn't mean squat...it's just a dye.

This is also the Lubrication section...moved to General.

Toyota red coolant is better than the green stuff...

Ask someone that's had his motor apart so many times he's lost count... IJ
