I agree. When my car still had the 7M, the PPS wiring was damaged and wasn't working correctly. I fixed it when swapping the 2J, and I'm in love! My 88 N/A without PPS was too twitchy at high speeds, even with the pre-89 damper.

Only difference is the pulley on the pump, the rack has the pressure control...

The pulley is not different. It is the same pulley from all the information I have. The pump however is different. The vane plates and everything internal is different between them, and they have different part numbers. The rack has more turns lock to lock (lower ratio). The VSV is on the rack though, NOT the pump. I'm sorry for that mistake.

well, PPS came at the same time they deleted the steering stabilizer, which would explain the smaller pulley...

86.5 - 88 Pulleys: All the same
90 - 92 Pulleys: All the same
89 N/A Pulley: Same as 86.5 - 88 (Even if the car had the optional PPS -- Odd)
89 Turbo Pulley: Same as 90 - 92
Not sure what the reasoning behind this is.

Yep, check the racks, the old racks have a dampner on them. They offset the removal of it with higher pressure from the pump...
