thoughts on running a T3 turbo?

So im thinking about running a T3 ( dont know exactly which one yet) on my 1j, im looking for around 450 whp. What are your thoughts? Should it spool quick? Is it worth it? Or should i just go big or go home. Id like to eventually drift the car, so i would imagine a T4 would have lots of lag which isnt ideal for drifting

I don't see nearly as many T3 flanged manifolds around as T4 manifolds (which are cheap and plentiful...) But with that being said it depends on the turbo specs. T3 and T4 is just the design of the exhaust housing flange, although T4's generally are bigger you really can't just group them all into one. For example a big T3 can spool slower than a small T4.

If u want a quick spool without sacrificing top end like a T3 get a billet 6266 and a divided manifold. Ive seen 18 psi with a .84 divided housing at 3500rpm on a 2j. If you really want more then go qsv on top of that and you'll blow tires off, but you'll need a undivided manifold and divided housing.

There is a couple t3 manifolds out there.

Better off with a t4 and a properly sized turbine housing.

Or a quick spool valve.

Divided spools faster as well.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken, but my understanding is that the ports on a T3 footprint are the same size as a T4 footprint, but the outer dimensions of the flanges are larger on the T4...

Comes down to nozzle size which is set by the AR, a 1.06ar T3 GT35R and a 1.06ar T4 GT35R are identical in performance the only difference being the flange shape and bolt holes.

So everything is the same size expect for the mating surfaces, wow. I assumed by having the smaller footprint they would also have smaller turbine passage ways as well.
