So I have been repairing a 90 Supra turbo for a friend off and on for the last 3 years or so. Eventually we decided to ditch the 7m ad swap to a different motor. The opportunity came up for a Supra that was wrecked and being sold on this site. So in case anyone was wondering what hapened to this car, here it is......

1990 Supra.......

Here's the original pics we got of the car.........

...... and this is how we got the car.......

So it's very important to note that in the proccess of this build I absolutely do not mean to bash the previous owner. He did a fine job for what he wanted. I will; however be showing the improvements that I have made.....

More to come later today...

Haha yeah that was the final straw when I said I was tired of working on it unless he was gonna swap for new parts. No more half assed repairs!

So here's more progress in a before and after kinda deal..... mind you everything in the white car is spray painted either white, purple or silver. Nothing is bare or coated........

Radiator had been smashed up against the fan so had to rip it in half to get it out....

The donor car is a 88 so just got the 89+ monts installed and moving engine/ trans to other garage where I keep the 90.

Got the 1J bolted itno the 90 and a some goodies back from the powdercoating place.....Might I also add that that header is kind of a pain to put in after the motor. For future reference install it on the hoist first!!!

The piece on the right was the oil drain piece for the turbo when we got it...... kinda scary!..... luckily aluminum propper flange was to the rescue....

Later found out that the reason why the crazy creation was made is that a standard -10 fitting won't fit without hitting the wierd little elbow welded to the turbo outlet. Tried clocking the compressor housing but that didn't work out since the hood would hit.

Ended up clocking the center section just a bit to clear it....

No more stupid phillips screws to strip out of the cam covers!!!!

So here's about where I am today. Got the radiator, fan shroud and all engine accessories bolted down. I primmed and sprayed the coil cover to make it look a little cleaner in a semi gloss black.

Powder coating turned out pretty clean and looks good against the standard black hoses...

I know the routing of this IC piping isn't ideal but best I can do with the unreasonably huge intercooler we got with the white car and also to keep the factory goodies in the propper places I had to move the ic around quite a bit. I am pleased that I was able to mount the BOV so close to the turbo though. Gotta like the added protection for the turbo. Also note the terrible quality BOV. For some unknown reason looks like the horn was JB welded to the BOV housing. Hope to get the real deal soon for him although I personally hate the way they sound....

Thanks for the compliments.

I wish I could keep it or get 1 of my own but I got a smokin deal on my 88 maroon targa so can't be too upset. More on that build after this is done though.

Haven's started a for sale thread. Been pretty busy with work and movings o slittle time to even work on the car. The white donor needs to be stripped and sold. I will be keeping the exhaust, driveshaft, springs, shocks, tail lights, wing and wheels. Apart from that it's all gotta go. Steerign wheel, seats, interior. Everything! As I saud befor I am really pressed for time so shipping is kind of a pain but if anyone's local and wants to come get soemhting please do.

No time to work on the car this week. Gonna dedicate monday and tuesday to working on it. Hope to have all the mechanical parts done by then.

Ok been a long time without updates. To the point of being almost done. Wiring is a nightmare though. No logic at all to the mess under the dash!

Ok so not running yet. I am at the point where 2 things are in the way. First is that the intercooler piping from the IC to the throttle body has no room to travel straight up with the ac lines and the ac fans in place. Can anyone send me picsof what they did? With stock battery location please?

Second is that with the harness in I have found a few plugs on the intake side that don't connect to the 1990 body harness. Any ideas? Thanks!

Just an FYI, placing the BOV so close to the turbo isn't a great idea. It is supposed to be as close to the intake manifold as possible, which is why a lot of people have BOV flanges welded onto the throttle body.

Why is it best having it close to the intake manifold? Seems to me the purpose is to relieve pressure so that you don't damage parts. I figure the compressor wheel is more fragile than the tb blade?

Well... it was what I had always been told to do because of "response" but after your post I went and read more on my own and it appears as though each location has its advantages and disadvantages. Placing it by the turbo like you have is indeed better for the turbo and also gets rid of the air before passing it through the intercooler keeping things slightly cooler (probably negligible). So, upon further review, carry on! lol.

I never finished the car. I was waiting on a Tial Wastegate, BOV, and a MBC because I was getting boost creep ever since the 2JZ cam install were sucking in more air. It is good to see where it is now. Never heard from it after December.

Also putting the BOV closer to the manifold is safer to most people because the vac line is right there and the bov is far away from the the hot turbo side of the the motor. Clocking that turbo was a good idea. I never thought of that. It did look scary but the original owner who ran it had no problem and he was making big numbers with no fails. As for the bov it was a driftmotion hks knockoff and i just put an RFL front on it for laughs and giggles. It works just fine. I was waiting for the wastegate and bov and mbc to come in when I decided to take the car to work that day for a car wash..... Sadly it was the wrong day when that idiot truck who cut me off throwing me into the lane with that stalled car with no hazards light on. Til this day I can not buy another car. I am sick of the drivers around me.

That sucks. It was a really nice clean car. I remember seeing your for sale thread. When you are ready to get into buying another Supra again, I have a 91 Shell up here in Queens, New York that is pretty darn clean whenever you are interested. Just send me a PM.
