near the back of the motor you will see a hose sticking out towards the left. it looks like someone cut it off from something, then used a mig to try and weld it up. it has to do with the cooling system coming off the block, but what does it hook up to on the car? it was like this when we pulled the motor

There should be a cap on that hose, it doesn't go anywhere on US cars.

That is the heater return for RH drive cars...it's not used on USDM cars. Normally, it has a rubber plug/cap clamped on it...MIG welding is a more "permanent" solution

yeah i read through that oil filter thread, it was pretty informative. i've had the car less than a month and only put about 50 miles on it before i pulled the motor, well 49.75 miles and about a 1/4 mile burnout just acting stupid.

it probably has more carbon buildup in the intake manifold, than any car i have ever seen. gonna take a while to clean everything out.

good news was that cylinders were in tip top shape and don't look like they even need to be bored, the machinist will be the deciding factor on that though.

Probably better to Silver Braze it shut if you don't trust the Rubber caps as the rest is brazed and if you're not careful the Mig heat might melt it out.

nah it's definitely mig'd cause there's two big beads of weld and some wire hanging off it, it's not a good job at all, and i think when i thought i blew the headgasket/coolant line, in actuality it was coming out of this hillbilly contraption

question IJ, for all the small hoses do they need to be a specific type, or can i just get a couple of feet of hose and replace them with the bulk stuff? i seen a few of them that had some funky bends andfr those i am going to just order replacements from wherever they can be bought cheap cause the soft hose would kink up.

A whole bunch of the small lines are INSANE prices from Toyota so unless it's a specific molded hose to fit into a specific place I buy bulk hose!
(I priced 2 vacc hoses that went from a valve to the CCannister that were like $70 I bought 4x the hose for $10)

A couple hoses you kinda "have to" buy at Toyota...the small 90 deg ones that connect this hard line to the top of the head and to the water neck in the front come to mind. That is unless you can find a generic hose the right diameter w/ a 90 deg bend.

You can get the right angle hoses from Auto zone or some place like that, they have to be cut a little if I remember right. Make sure you take one with you to match up the size.
