Heres a thread of my build so far, I havnt done much yet. Wating for income tax and going to order a 1JZ front clip and everything else. But heres what Ive done so far. Enjoy, any comments welcomed!

I found the car in my friends friends backyard. He said it has been sitting there for a year. When I found it she looked like this.

$900 later I brought her home and gave her a good wash.

I then procceded to strip out the hatch and sound deadning. Also the dash was cracked so I sourced out another one and replaced that. I figured why not do some other things to the interior, so i replaced my worn steering wheel with some NRG goodies.

I didnt touch the car for about 2 weeks. Then decided the paint wasnt going to cut it for me, cause there were things like this.

So then after doing lots of research, I decided to do the "Roll on Paint Job". Not saying $50, cause it did cost me about $150, but then again $65 of that being a DA Sander. I found out the hood has been resprayed and was chipping badly in some parts of the hood. So I smoothed out the car with the DA.

Then sanded with some 400 grit sandpaper.

The car is like that as of rite now. Then i washed her off and she is now waiting for paint.

Great buy......I'm assuming N/A. You might wish you had waited to install that new dash until after the 1JZ project is done. I love the wheels! I'm gonna keep an eye on this as you go, because you look like you know what you are doing with the "$50" paint, and you take good pictures. I haven't seen great pictures of any of the cars that have been done.

Dont get me wrong, the sanding with the Sander was just for the rough spots, the rest was block sanded.

That's because you're obviously not scared to dive in and get your hands dirty. This is an awesome project, and thanks for saving another MKIII. Your paint job is looking really great. They also make some great attachments for that DA sander. There is a velcro pad, and then there are 2000 and 3000 grit papers that attach to the velcro for water sanding large areas. Also the 2" thick buffing pads in fine grit and super fine grit attach for your final polishing. Might want to check this stuff out, will save you days of work. Go to an automotive paint store, they will have it all, or look online for body shop supplies. 3M polishing compounds are the best way to polish it. But the way it is looking you might not need to buff it at all.

Thanks for the advice, Im going to go the Auto paint store today and look around for some things I mite need. If the paint comes out good enough on the car, I may just get it cleared. Im going to put on the first coat today. :icon_bigg

wouldnt u want to use clearcoat to protect it though?
From what I hear you dont have to. The paint is very tough and should resist rock ships. I mean it is rust paint and should withstand most rocks and such. I have heard that it does fade though.
