Targa strip with rust ? +Pics

So I am in the process of replacing the seals on my 92, almost zero rust on the car until I cam across this. The metal strip that goes across the front, right above the windshield was wet and all the screws completely rusted out. So after removing much tar/sealent I got the strip removed and everything cleaned up. So my questions are.

Has anyone run across this before?
Were the wrong screws used?
Where and how much sealent to use when reinstalling the metal strip?
What kind of sealent works best?

I am in the process of doing this also. Your old screws look exactly like mine (except for the rust) so they must be original. I too would appreciate some clarification on which sealant is best. Here are some links for reference. Dylan's writeup has some good pics.

Rust sealent and a few coats of white paint.

New screws and gromits fresh from Japan.

how much did those cost you/did you do front and rear/part numbers?

Sorry about the late reply, I dont have the reciept any more but I think it was about $10-15 for the screws and the gromits. Here are the parts numbers, I just did the front ones about the windshield.

im gonna rip mine off as well.. seems like i have a little leak coming from there. how many screws and grommets do i need? i see 5 and 6 grommets?

6 Gromits and 6 screws, you may want to order about 3 weeks before you get started because I think they have to ship them from Japan.
