symptoms of a crapping out ignition coil???

i ask this 'cause just tonight i was driving and the car started sputtering upon acceleration. when i pulled over it was still doing it at idle, but when i moved the ignition wire that's the connected to the coil, it ran normally. it has a tight connection on the coil. it's really annoying. i just got the car running smooth with a new coolant temp sensor and this shit starts. NAs SUCK! still running REALLY rich though:icon_evil

any tips would be awesome

yep, JJ is living up to that...

more than likely not the coil, but your plug wires (which includes the one from the coil to the cap), try replacing them before blaming the car...

ummmm blaming the car? i'm blaming the motor. if its not one thing, its the other. oh and the reason was i had a pool of oil in the spark plugs gallies. thanks for nothing guys:3d_frown:

not to sould like an ass or anything, but leaving comments like that will make people not want to help you if you need any other help. Trust me, there are people on this board who really know their stuff, and JJ is one of them. You have to ask smart questions to get smart answers. And poodles is right, as far as the miss problem, its most likely your wires, esp. if they're older and have been pulled on a lot....but you also didnt mention the condition of any of the other ignition componets...hows the shape of the plugs? rotor? dist cap?
As far as running rich, you're going to have to give a bit more info than just "its running rich" and expect to get a pin point answer on a vauge statement. what are your mods?

make sure to clean out your plug wires if they're covered in oil...

sorry if we come off as harsh, but a comment like "NAs SUCK" doesn't help...

do what I do, look at it this way, keep fixing problems and you'll eventually have a reliable car after all the years of abuse from previous owners...

i apologize as well. well, i had about a quart of oil through out the spark plug galleys. mostly in the back one. all that oil was causing a little to no spark on the wires/plug. i cleaned out allll the oil and wiped and brake cleaned everything. i replaced the valve cover gaskets and resealed the galley cover. the car started right up running alot better. i have to wait until tomorrow to see how it really runs after all the shit clears out of the motor.

oh and the running really rich part is still ???? the coolant temp sensor was broken off my car, so i replaced it. got it running smoother, but still reeked. maybe since the spark was SO bad, it wasn't burning all the fuel, causing the smell? idk
