Switches on steering wheel

Has anybody wired accessory switches onto an aftermarket steeringwheel?
(brittania in this case, but I think it would apply to any aftermarket wheel)

I have a momentary switch mounted on the steering wheel that I like, but right now I'm using an external coil wound wire (similar to what you might see on a race car). It's kind of a pita and I would like to wire it through the steering column of my 87, but when I looked at it with the wheel off I couldn't think of a way to do it that would not bind up inside the steering column and eventually shear the wire.

Appreciate any ideas, I'm sure someone has done this.

Forgive me for bumping my own thread, but I've been staring at my steering coulmn with the wheel off for the last 3 hours and coming up snake eyes.

I know it's a pretty obscure subject, but I'm hoping someone out there might have some experience on this subject.

the reason no one answers.

1. What you are doing with the coil wound wire is correct even for street duties.

What are you trying to do is race based setup with input switches being either rotary or toggle installed and mounted on the steering wheel. 99.99% of the time no one will do this. Reason is that most don't need that many switches on the steering wheel like say, a car with a full blown standalone + Digital display dash.

I have seen no one succesfully add a switch and have the wires go inside the steering wheel. To many issues to contend with,

....bummer...that's what I was afraid of.

What is the end goal, what do you want on the steering wheel? I'm confused.

I need to add a "push on-push off" switch for the overdrive lockout and another monentary switch for nitrious.

I already run this set up but with coiled wire that wraps around the steering column when I turn the wheel, but I'd like to eliminate the outside coil to further the sleeper status of my car

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
