another footnote i remember my brother inlaw playing with the timing and moving the cps one tooth back one tooth forward is it possible that's the problem he never got it right?

its got to be the maf, i ran my car on accident with it unplugged and ran exactly as you describe. maybe not a prob with the sensor but possibly a break in the harness. hows the condition of the wires? can you fold them and straighten it back out? if you live in an area with snow, its possible a chaffed wire couldve got corroded and is still together, but just not broken, so try a pull test on the sensors wires. also corrosion causes high resistance and on a sensitive circuit like that it might not throw the code right away but it can act in weird ways

Year, model, and mods. Factory ignitor? Any previous problem before the misses?

1989 supra turbo ignightor is stock as far as i know toyota said they timed it valve timing and ignition timing, before i had the headgasket replaced it ran like a dream initially the valve guide seals was bad so decided if im going to go that deep into engine may as well do the head gasket pulled two codes after that knock sensor circuit and also mass air flow sensor took care of both of those she isn't pulling a code now but she is missing big time and smells like she is running and missing bad most of the time she idles so rough she stalls and the timing is as far as it can go if i go the other way it gets worse not sure if that makes any since.

that could be because i purchased a brand new one and it still runs the same allthough the wiring viually looks ok i havn't checked on it past that.

cfs...maf...? :3d_frown:

Did it run this way before you had Toyota do the work? If not, then take it back to them.

If so, then they're not a good shop/dealership. They should have notified you of the poor runability and quoted you the repair.

well they got it running better and told me that the reason it was still missing was that it was still pulling the code for the mass air flow sensor however i got that fixed and it still misses i think even though there the dealer not sure they know what there doing.
